I put my face as my avatar on a public forum, tell all my dirty secrets to people I've never met, and make plans to go visit across the ocean.

But my porn is embarrassing, so I use Firefox Focus for that.

Online privacy is critical necessity in human society, if we were to lose it who knows what might happen. Community's such as ours would not be as free as were are now; this is why the hidden internet services is becoming bigger. As it stands right now, we do have a relativity open internet society, any topic you like as community behind it, but what happens when any group or government entity get the rights to blocking content or start tracking users who do not have the means to protect themselves?

Let's say a politician enjoys watching and a community, in this example he likes transsexuals. If a investigation is conducted on him or her and the board or site is found to have hosted child-pornography(The type that it's very hard to tell if their underage, not the obvious) even though he or she may have never clicked on it, that would mean they could be responsible for committing a crime. Even though there is a lot of sick people out there, it's not worth giving up our internet privacy. Even though it may mean that some child is being hurt or exploited. It's up to the users and the admins to report these types of activities. The government and or law-enforcement, does not have the right to watch your activities without a FISA warrant.

This issue is quite major for me, so we do need to protect the internet and keep it ours. Even though some sick fucks might be doing things, but it's better to let a potential murderer walk free then to convict a innocent man. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but it's the only rational point of view I can think of.

I'm not comfortable with the way online privacy is vanishing, but I recognise it's probably mostly inevitable as personal information becomes an ever-more viable commodity.

I've already taken steps to protect my vast compendium of clown porn that stands unrivalled in western civilisation stuff though, so I'm not overly concerned on a personal level.

          If people used the internet properly this would be a non issue, if you have children do not put them online. It's not the early 2000's anymore most everyone uses the internet. But, I don't have children, so I'm probably not qualified to have a opinion on the matter.

The horse has left the barn as far as internet privacy goes. I'm not concerned about people knowing who I am in places like this. I'm far more concerned about the government digitally spying on me and possibly deciding to use what I might think of as benign or harmless information against me.

I don't quite understand why people say they don't care much about internet privacy because they "have nothing to hide". I don't have much to hide either but I value my ability to live life without being surveilled and monitored.

The issue of government intrusion is, of course, entirely separate, insofar as legal rights are concerned.

I browse and download stuff on a boxed partition, which is cut off from the rest of my system. Javascript, flash and images are blocked by default except on the sites I trust. But this is not really for privacy, rather I am more afraid of viruses and malwares. I believe privacy is a myth considering the amount of tech we use in our lives.
