I didn't like it 100% but it didn't upset me.
It was just hokey. He is a huge fan of the series, and Maisie Williams (Arya) lobbied to have him on the show briefly. The rumor was that he was supposed to die horribly, so I wouldn't be surprised if we haven't seen the last of him.

Not even knowing the singer in real life, I thought his appearance was normal.
It simply seems to me that anyone opposed to his appearance has a grudge against him in real life.
But that's what happens when one becomes too engrossed in a show, opinions fly lie locusts.

A couple of reasons
1) For me personally it took me out of the scene, hard.
2) I hate him
3) I think the show has suffered the more popular it's gotten. The last two seasons, overall, were subpar. Catering to the masses. Putting a massive pop start in there and shoving him in my face is just another way they cater to the masses IMO
4) I hate him

Yeah. I don't know or care about him as a singer so for me, it was just a scene in the show. I don't think he was horrible for a throw away bit part. Guess we'll have to see what if anything more they do with him and how he does with that.

I also think it's an excuse to release an *****exclusive!!!***** Ed Sheeran single.
Arya: "I've never heard that one before."
Soldier: "It's a new one.....
....that you'll be able to buy on iTunes next month! Only $1.99!"

*Shrugs* The cameo was fine. I'm not very familiar with Ed Sheeran, but I know what he looks like and I knew he had a cameo with Arya.
My reaction was literally "Oh look, it's Ed Sheeran." And then I went back to enjoying the scene. It's really not that big of a deal.
Plus - Sheeran is one scruffy ginger motherfucker. He looks like someone whose family has lived in the same village for 9 generations. He fits in just fine with a group of commoner soldiers in GoT.

Methinks everyone is making a big fuss of this Ed guy... I'd never seen him, never heard him, never knew anyone from the music industry would be acting in GoT.... And the scene came out nice. Like in Lord of the Rings, ASoIaF has people singing some songs. Fancy hall songs, like the Rains of Castamere and not so fancy campsite or road songs, like the Bear and the Maiden Fair and whatever this new one was.
It's an ages old activity:

This is me as well. I have no idea who Ed Sheeran even is, and don't really care. In the books, soldiers do sing. I thought Arya coming upon some soldiers who were so common, singing to entertain themselves, then being actually legitimately kind to her, was actually a very nice scene. You get the feeling she is surprised to find people who aren't out to rape and murder a stranger. She was moved by those boys. It softened her edges for a few moments (only a few!)
The scene was just a scene, a fairly nice one, to me. I had no idea there was even controversy about it. But I don't read GoT news to keep myself spoiler free. I guess if people know this Ed Sheeran fellow, it changes how they see that scene.
