So is pussy. I think. I really dont rember anymore.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

To many; God is nothing more but a comical character that excels in certain field; another man/woman that has supernatural powers.
But what about God, as in "all knowing"?

That is a God that never gave birth, or was born. A "something else". He is not a man with a super abilities; but he made the abilities themselves.
Wrote it down. Created darkness and light. Pain and salvation.

He made the sickness, but made the cure too. God in this definition, is a scary being, but a beautiful one too.
It's all about the scale he made: increase gravity, and you crush the human next door.

He is not a "another one". He is the "One God". "He" is only used to refer to him; God created gender itself.

Something to think about..He is great.

You seem to be missing quite a few steps:

1. Provide demonstrable, falsifiable evidence and reasoned argument that the supernatural exist.
2. Provide demonstrable, falsifiable evidence and reasoned argument that a god exists.
3. Provide demonstrable, falsifiable evidence and reasoned argument that it is the god you believe exists.

After that, then maybe we can talk about the specific attributes you claim this god has, including if it is "great" or not.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

RE: God is great
God is a concept that seems to have been invented by every human culture and society since time immemorial. There is no evidence for god, any of them. The concept of god has been used to justify and excuse countless atrocities throughout history, and even until today. Religion has held back scientific and social progress for centuries, and always the religious have to dragged into modern society.
No god was there to save my dad or my sister when they needed aid; it was the tools of science, the innovations of man that saved them, not some mythical sky-man. Thanks to progress in modern medicine my dad will be able to walk and talk again; demonstrable results that no amount of prayer would have achieved. And yet despite this, there are many who would claim that God saved my family. God is unnecessary in modern society, arguably a god never was needed in any time; but we know that we, the humans that dot this planet and who we see each and every day, are capable of more compassion, kindness, and aid than any god that has ever been conceived. We don't need them, so let us cast god into waste-bin along with demons and fairies and ghosts and all the other paranormal claptrap.

Okay.
It's still better than telling the kid "dude; all your misery means nothing and was for nothing; there is no "for" ".

But heartless shit is "realism" when the situation insists. and "a rude insult" when the situation is changed.

Quote:I dislike ever having to use the 'capital G' god in any context, and avoid it as often as possible. Find it irksome to see others using it in that way, as if such a thing deserves to be a fucking proper noun.

Outside of very obvious fiction, the concept is pointless at best, and the worst blight on humanity on the other end of the spectrum.

Time and again, I've come up with god concepts that are far beyond any conceived of by actual theists. If their sky daddies can't measure up to mine (because they claim that a god is typically 'that which no greater can be conceived') then such gods are not great, let alone good, and certainly not worthy of worship or veneration.

So let's limit god to putting it in front of 'zilla' and leave it at that.

Anybody can make claims about God, some even draw portraits of him.
As far as I'm concerned; it's this exact verse from the Quran that I prefer to use when it comes to God:

Quote:Sura 6, The Quran:

( 102 )   That is Allah, your Lord; there is no deity except Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He is Disposer of all things.
( 103 )   Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision; and He is the Subtle, the Acquainted.

So it's quite amazing to keep it to that: he can see you, but you can't see him.
To me, that's understanding failing to grasp his full greatness.

Industrial Lad

Quote:If my afflictions are ever cured, it willl be science, not god, that deserves the credit. As it is, 20 years of sincerely believing in god didn't help at all.

Science is the means of discovering how the pieces of creation work together; it's levels of complication just shows how great God is.

Quote:You find "beauty" in an allegedly all powerful being who watches over a planet that averages 1 billion deaths every 20 years?

I think maybe the better option is that there is no God and if we want to do something about the suffering in the world it is up to us to do it.

How many of these deaths are inflicted by other humans ?
Count all the water we waste; all the free medicine we can give; all the wealth we can share with the poor; and the picture will change drastically.

Quote: Actually, "he" - or more correctly, preachers with a vested interest in holding onto control without actually doing anything to earn it - are selling the "cure". A cure for which there is no known disease. To borrow from the Hitch, the scam only works if they can convince people they were created sick and ordered to be well - and only they have the right formula of snakeoil to do it.

Missionaries and preachers have the choice of offering their reason to be judged an validated. And the majority validation wins.
Nothing would remain eventually, but the person, their mind and the holy book they believe in.

Total freedom; if I was to say. Snakeoil sellers and manipulative liars would meet the above condition if they ever wanted to be heard.

Quote:But it's transparently obvious in their book that the whole fall and salvation shtick is a fucking setup. There isn't even a fucking man behind the curtain, he's jacking off right in front of them. What more can be said or done? Nothing seems to work.

Many people would settle for an entity as long as it provides something they need: security, food and shelter.
So the man behind the curtain can be quite variable.

Cyberman

Quote:None so blind as those who will not see. Seems like some people have a burning need to be led. Far easier than having to think for themselves, actually having to come to terms with the world and their place in it.

That itself is an evidence of God: if humanity is born with a hard-wired thouggt of being led; then we need a God at all times.

Quote:Atlas. You're smart enough to dismiss most religious scams... One more to go. Yours! And you're there.

God never wanted to visit our indigenous people who have been in Australia for 65000 years (latest carbon dating).

Couldn't he find a virgin to impregnate any sooner? Sheesh! Hehehe
C'mon, give us a break....you're not 4 years old...

Dismissing false ideas is not limited to smart people; once logic is used it's more of an answered argument anyhow.
Many religious institutions sell dreams and (like Cybeman stated) snakeoil. Honesty is enough to dismiss that.

If somebody died without any message reaching them, then it's God's matter.

I'm not 4, but I think you hate some of the religious and missionaries, and the hate just gets generalized on all religious people.

Quote:Really tells you something. Makes me want to rip the throat out of anyone who says that we're only capable of being moral is because we're 'borrowing' from a religious worldview. I mean, it sounds like the kind of thing some asshole would say after they lost an argument and they're just butt-hurt but I hear it from preSUCKositionists like Eric Ho-vind right out of the gate.

It's not about morality, but things like "what goes around always comes back around" are pretty much of a religious base.
