There's nothing really to solve. We don't need to find a "natural" explanation for a group's belief in a deity. God (or a god) is a place-holder for mystery, and a personification of a group's ideals or worst fears. Yahweh was one of several gods that filled this position.

Yeah, I guess we don't have a religion problem in the world right now. Hmmm... I think over half the world's population worshipping a false deity and being at each other's throats and looking down their noses at everyone else to be a bit of a downer for the world.
...er...wasn't disagreeing with it being a problem. Not sure how you got THAT idea.

But if I were to assume you meant you wanted a 'natural' explanation in order to stop people from being so ignorantly religious... Trying to shove evidence around a story is as filled with holes as the story itself. Just revealing how many holes there are in the story is sufficient in many cases.
You want less religious people? Make 'em read the bible all the way through. |
