RE: Would you get rid of your sexual desire if you could?

Not wanting sex doesn't help so much if I still have a deep desire for companionship. The former I can do something about, at least in a way. The latter, I can't.
Then again maybe the desire isn't as deep as I think and is part of a desire to be "normal."

Would you do it?
I imagine a lot of people would. Those who wish only to work without distractions. Those brokenhearts. Etc etc. All kind of stories. What do you think?
Yes and no.
I look back at what my hormones did to me as a teen and in my early 20s. No, I would not want to go back to that.
But I certainly like my sexuality and plumbing.
Been through the dating, been through the rejection, been through marriage, and divorce. I don't think it is wise to ignore your body or desires. I would say that it is extremely important to know how your body works and have good communications with whomever you have relationships with.
If you think sex is a distraction, I'd say it isn't the sex itself, but at this point in your life you simply want to focus on your goals, and that is fine. But I wouldn't do anything drastic to your body that you cant reverse. No different than tattoos. I wouldn't say no, but you better be damned sure because some decisions cant be reversed.

If there were a god, he would have given us this built-in if he expected us not to lust.
I know, right? The fuckheads who want to say everything bad is our fault because of sin conveniently overlook the fact that the deck was stacked against us without any control or choice on our part because of the so-called intelligent and benevolent designer.

When you try to do what they say, the total and complete abstinence just makes things worse because your body wants to reproduce. I think all the stuff about lust is a simpletons plan to make the most legitimately born Christians. Never mind if it makes people who have difficulty finding a wife miserable. Never mind that the people who genuinely believe are going to feel guilt over things that shouldn't even be a problem.

Sex has a strong bonding function. It's not perfect, but for many, including myself, is part of the overall beauty of a relationship.
Can be abused, for sure.
I always remember that old film 'Demolition Man', where sex was replaced by VR, and how miserable it made the old relic, and how happy Sandra was to discover how it was done in the past.
If you find it icky, don't do it, no problem.
Consent and adulthood should be the only rules.

And we of course see this fail spectacularly as those piece of shit 'celibate' priests get their hands on the youngest flesh they can find. You can't have religion without hypocrisy.

@OP Q
Sounds like a cure for sexual frustration.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there already a cure for that...sex...I believe it's called?
Honestly, why get rid of a healthy impulse for a healthy activity.....in an attempt to solve some ancillary problem? Not wanting sex isn't going to fix a broken heart. I don't know how many people suffer from being sexhounds at the office....but...I doubt that many of them are incapable of work for all the time they imagine sexing janet in accounting.

Very interesting thread.
I was born with a major physical disability 41 years ago. When I was growing up, I felt beholden to a percieved (and I think very real) taboo against the visibly physically disabled being sexual at all, including but not limited to actually having sex and foreplay. Between that and having moved around a lot, and having issues making the right friends/enemies, I do not have any romantic experience whatsoever. I am developmentally completely behind on this aspect of socialization.
That said, I do look at pics, and communicate on sites like fetlife, etc. And that's satisfying in a way, but it's also time consuming. Would I still have problems if I were able-bodied? Maybe. And maybe not. I'll never be able to tell. But it is maddening having these feelings and not being able to as easily act on them due in part to these societal constructs in my way.
Would removing sexual desire at he flip of a switch cure all my problems? Most definitely no. But it might help me focus on what I can achieve in life, and is important for me to achieve.

But only because I can't find anyone to share it with.... and the amount of times I have to share it with myself is such a gigantic time suck that I barely have time to do any daily chores or even get out much. I'd be 10000000000% more productive if I wasn't quite literally a massive wanker.
If I could find someone to share my sex drive with and actually have a sex life, or even a girlfriend, then there is NO WAY IN A MILLION YEARS I'd get rid of my sexual desire.

Nope.

They indeed can.
I know that feel. I spend too much time fapping. I have made it an art.

I've made a backup porn folder to which I can fap for those instances I don't have internet.
