Grow your patience.
Be honest, and talk to them in as adult manner as is possible for their given age.
Let them know that your love is unconditional.
Make your punishments fair and firm. Do not punish in anger.
Rmember: Sometimes "time-out" is time-out, and sometimes it is protective custody. If you're angry at your child, use that time out to let the anger go.
Do things with your child. Keep them active.
You are your child's most important teacher.

Teach your kids that being honest will always get them punished. But that lying might get them out of it. This will prepare them for a career in politics.

Teach them that the choices and decisions they make today - could potentially effect them in the future so always weigh all the options before making a decision out of haste.

1. About the person you’re making the baby with: make sure you love them, respect them, and have compatibility. Hate, fighting and disagreements on every parenting issue is no way to raise a child. Study the person first. Do your research. Ask tons of questions. What about their extended family? How will they be involved? What about religion in your child’s life? Education? Discipline? Sports? If you disagree on everything, chances are your child will pay the price.
