Yeah, I'm not sure why I'm getting the feeling that people are sympathizing with communism here. This is a new one for me.
Oh, have you not seen the movie Animal Farm? That movie, which I recommended, is very anti-communism.
It's a great movie for kids too, of course, since it involves talking cartoon animals, and it basically teaches the lesson that if you try to give no one power then the strong but nasty people (or animals in the cartoon) push themselves into power through force. Trying too hard to make a perfectly equal society can actually lead to extreme inequality and tyranny.
It's one of the best movies I've ever seen. And I first saw it when I was about 10.

It seems to me that every communist system, even proto-communist systems going back to the peasant revolts of medieval Europe that wanted to abolish private property result in the same thing, power concentrated in one person. It seems to me that every system but democracy ends up this way.
Also I disagree that it's a good idea in theory. What is a good idea if it doesn't actually work? That's called a bad idea.

The whole point of "in theory" as opposed to "in practice" is that it doesn't need to "actually work" in practice. Jesus.
A good idea in theory isn't necessarily a good idea in practice . . .
The previous paragraph on your post actually made a lot of sense and I was going to kudos your post until I read this last line. Which prevents me from kudosing it because it might mislead people into actually thinking that I think that something not being a good idea in practice means it's not a good idea in theory when obviously I don't think that.
With regards to your first paragraph, I agree that democracy is so far the only form of government that has actually worked. And in fact I think this quote is very appropriate:
There are certainly HUGE flaws with democracy (as demonstrated by Brexit and Trump winning), but it's far better than every other form of government that has been tried so far.

I agree, pushing communism on a population will never turn out good. If a good amount of people embrace it naturally (without any push) that it actually becomes the norm then it'll turn out pretty great imo.

Was 1984 ever made into a movie? Because I usually don't have great enough attention span to read through a whole nove - ooh what's that shiny thing!
Yes.
John Hurt was 6079 Smith, and Richard Burton was O'Brien.

It's economically left fascism.
The common denominator is it's still socially right.

Note: I mean the Marxist-Leninist ideology to be more specific.
No.
I think it would work well in a small self-sustained community, but the most likely end result is zero innovation and initiative, everyone becoming a drone, a zombie, just another cog in the machine... Might have worked well on ancient tribal communities, but was invented a bit too late for them.
I think the reason why it could work (but not necessarily would work) in a small self-sustained community is because the smaller the community the less likely that there's someone who exists there who will abuse their way into a leader position.

Good example of Stalinism. Not so much communism.

I haven't seen the movie, but we had to read the novel for English class in high school, so I am very familiar.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
