The Right of Revolution
#11
RE: The Right of Revolution
Quote:What people volunteer for and what they find themselves doing aren't always the same.

When do professional armies refuse to follow their commanders?

Soldiers are trained to follow orders. They don't have to know what they are doing.

Every two-bit colonel in every banana republic tells his men "we have to save our country....let's go boys."

I'm far more worried about a military coup in this country than a popular, armed, uprising.

Why would the military bother to throw a coup when it can essentially rule without toppling the government?

I'll stand with you Rhythm, and not just because of the government.

I know Min has a problem with this, and so does one of my dearest friends, but damned if I want to go much further in life without having my own 9 mil, a least. Certainly when I move out of the house I'm at into my own place.

Gun control makes lawful people restricted at best, or unarmed at worst. Lawless people, government officials included, aren't fettered. If it comes between a choice of me defending myself and my property against someone else, I'd like to have an equalizer.

I'm not sure how a military coup would be any different in this regard. If General so and so wants to call himself King of Kentucky, fine, but I'm going to take a few shots at him.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

With all of the killer military hardware our government has at its disposal, is holding onto what amounts to pea-shooters in comparison going to make a difference if it comes to armed conflict?

Don't get me wrong, if we could settle all of our greivances without violence, and there were no tyranny in the world, I'm all for beating swords into plowshares. I'd just like to see the other guy do it first.

IDK faith, ask the vietnamese.

And he'd like to see you do it first. Unless someone does it: there will be an eternal standoff Heart

I've seen those before. They are awesome, because while they build a bigger military: I out-infrastracture and out-tech them... and accomplish in one ship a few years later what they can do with 20 Heart

How would the Vietnam war gone if we had predator drones at the time?

Different situation. America doesn't have jungle. A lot of it is really quite flat. We were assaulting north vietnam who could hide in the jungle with ease (hell, they are native. Hard to beat natives on their own ground when they can still do damage to you)... different than them assaulting us.

Quickly, they would have lost.

Oh Sae. We need to take you around the rest of America.
Believe me - plenty of options for guerrilla warfare here.
