I'll stand with you Rhythm, and not just because of the government.
I know Min has a problem with this, and so does one of my dearest friends, but damned if I want to go much further in life without having my own 9 mil, a least. Certainly when I move out of the house I'm at into my own place. Gun control makes lawful people restricted at best, or unarmed at worst. Lawless people, government officials included, aren't fettered. I'm not sure how a military coup would be any different in this regard. If General so and so wants to call himself King of Kentucky, fine, but I'm going to take a few shots at him.

With all of the killer military hardware our government has at its disposal, is holding onto what amounts to pea-shooters in comparison going to make a difference if it comes to armed conflict?
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Don't get me wrong, if we could settle all of our greivances without violence, and there were no tyranny in the world, I'm all for beating swords into plowshares. I'd just like to see the other guy do it first.

They are awesome, because while they build a bigger military: I out-infrastracture and out-tech them... and accomplish in one ship a few years later what they can do with 20

We were assaulting north vietnam who could hide in the jungle with ease (hell, they are native. Hard to beat natives on their own ground when they can still do damage to you)... different than them assaulting us.
