What do people hate/dislike about you?

Oh and to follow this up: People dislike how I have almost no filter and my talking is basically thinking aloud.

Some people also find me rather self-absorbed. I always try to be there for people and to validate them, but my way of validating people often involves to give them examples of how I can relate to their experiences because I've had similar experiences myself. The point is to make them feel less alone and just to relate in general, but many people find it that I am shifting the attention from them to me. But that isn't the point of it at all.

Dunno

CL, pooping on me won't help in this case. Maybe some other time Big Grin

Depends. Big Grin  If you were completely involved in fire, I wouldn't, since it would be too late. But if not, I'd piss in a cup and then splash it on you. I'm not up for a personal weenie roast.

Ok, ta. It's the thought that counts...
My only concern is where are you going to find a cup in short notice?

Hopefully, you'll consider the one in you hand full of beer?

Pff, I'd shake the beer up and spray that on you, first! Friends are far harder to find than a can or bottle of beer. If you were still burning, I'd conk you on the head with the bottle hard enough to render you unconscious during your Viking funeral. If I could get close enough. My nick may be "Fireball", but I have my limits. When I worked as a mechanic, I could really handle heat. Once, at a friend's party, I moved coals around with my finger tips. Lots of calluses, in those days. Now, I have to have big ol' oven mitts when I'm grilling some food.

True story. When I worked as a mechanic (late '70s, for this episode), this guy came in on a Sunday morning and wanted a tuneup on his truck. It was hotter than hell's brazen hinges, what with the emissions equipment of the day, plus he was towing a boat, and it was summer, like 107F in the shade. I explained that it needed to cool off before I could work on it. "But I gotta get to the lake!" I should have just told him no, but I went ahead and started removing the spark plugs, (and he's practically in my back pocket while I'm working, mind you) and that's when the idea hit me. I got the first plug loose with the ratchet and socket, and removed it the rest of the way with a short piece of neoprene vacuum line. Like I said before, I had a lot of calluses and heat tolerance back in the day. I held that spark plug up by the porcelain, and rolled it between my thumb and forefinger (quickly- it was literally sizzling hot in my fingers), said, "That looks fine", and set it on the work bench. Stupid fuck picked it up and immediately got burned and practically threw it across the shop "YOW", because he picked it up by the metal part. He went and sat in the waiting room after that, blowing on his poor little burnt pickers.

After I was done, the pump jockey (I worked in a gas station then) came over and told me that he could see that I was setting the guy up. He got a good laugh out of it, too. Tongue

Yeah, nothing worse than people breathing down your neck while you work...

As for me - people hate me because I don't do well in social settings. I tend to talk way too much and say way more about my life than necessary. Also - I have what some would consider to be a "strong" personality. People either like that or they don't. Most don't. I rub people the wrong way and I suffer from foot in mouth disease.

I've had to learn to be more like you socially.  I was raised to be a perfect diplomat and that sucked.  Why would anyone want to be everyone's friend?  When I was actively dating two important things occurred to me.  One, that it sucked at least as much to be the one who breaks off a relationship as it does to be the one rejected.  Two, that being the case, it made no sense to put my best face (defined as the part they wanted to see) forward.  All that did was ensure that I would always have to be the rejector rather than the rejected, not a win.  By being disclosive about yourself and forthrightly honest n your opining, you may indeed rub some people the wrong way.  But, unless you're running for political office, that's good.  Winning mr or ms congeniality doesn't make for sustainably good relationships or even a satisfying life.  You are much, much better off being yourself and allowing people to sort themselves out accordingly.  You're my role model.

I've seen evidence to the contrary. Do you find there are men you like who are simply unbearably hard to look at? I haven't found that to be the case the other way around.

Thank you for this. I guess gaining 40 pounds since July (it has been over five months since I smoked a cigarette) has caused me to notice how unflattering 250 pounds looks on a frame that's 5 foot, 4 and 1/2 inches tall. And for as much as I am trying to work on that, I'm stressed out here at home and I just don't ever get any compliments from any of the people I live with.
I do need to hear it every once in a while but I am not going to beg anyone in my house to say it.

I hope you'll stick with the not smoking for now.  Eventually you'll need to attend to weight loss too to enjoy a long life.  But my just younger brother used to vacillate between smoking and weight gain.  He was just over six foot tall and weighted about 350 when he died.  He had a massive heart attack in his sleep at 47 when his CPAP machine set at maximum could no longer maintain an airway for him.  Eventually the nicotine will lose its grip on you and you'll learn to deal with the feelings it can mask.  You should probably keep your significant other in the loop about what you're experiencing to some degree.  Maybe just tell him how strongly you're feeling these negative feelings and how much you could use all the encouragement he can give you?

Rest assured I have zero intentions of returning to smoking horrible cigarettes. I cannot stand the smell. It makes me ill. That nicotine released me from it's chains back in July. I haven't had a craving or a want since July 1st. I feel so free! It's great Smile

I am so very sorry about your younger brother. Rob had a grandmother and a great aunt (her sister) both die within the last three years of lung cancer. I thought that that would have encouraged him to quit but it hasn't. Everyone in his family smokes, so I'm not surprised by this at all.

I've attempted to let Rob know how the smell sickens me, but he still smokes. He says he has no plans to quit. Luckily, there's no smoking in my house or in my car. And when we shoot pool - there is no smoking inside the bar now. They went smoke free back in April of this year. I've honestly stopped asking for any encouragement from anyone in my house. I just do me and leave everyone else to their own shit.

OMG yes. Nothing sets off the Italian blood boiling faster than an elder who wants to stand over you while you do something. I hate that!

People tend to dislike how negative I am like ALL the time, they say.

I prefer to think of myself as a realist who accepts things can go just as sour as they can good.
