Matey. Religious people were indoctrinated at a young age to believe. They are the victims here.
It doesn't make them any less intelligent.
It makes them less fortunate imo to carry that extra baggage around their whole life..
Grown adults raising kids and at the same time believing in Harry Potter/Disney style magic and other miracles... It's sad really.
And the churches just prey on it and take their hard earned money. I find corporate religions repulsive.

I'm late to this party and only skimmed the earlier posts so forgive me if I missed something but I'm extremely skeptical of this claim because:
Intelligence is only very vaguely defined. Have you ever noticed how nearly everybody is constantly expressing frustration about how stupid everyone else is? It doesn't take a genius to figure out that something is wrong here. Apparently, everyone is smart AND everyone is stupid. It's actually not that far off the mark. In reality, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. I for example am pretty good at math and physics type of stuff. I'm particularly adept in the field of electronics. But I'm socially inept. The field of economics is utter gibberish to me. And I can't imagine why any guy who has ever watched Gilligan's Island would think Ginger is hotter than Mary Ann.
Our brains are all wired differently and it's quite a complicated affair. Some people are so strong in one area that they look like geniuses - yet so deficient in others that they look like idiots. Case in point is Dr. Ben Carson, a U.S. neurosurgeon who was a candidate for the Republican nominee for President in 2016. This is a guy who cut through people's skulls and performed surgeries on their brains - and he was particularly good at it. But this same guy believes that the biblical Joseph built the pyramids to store grain! So is this guy gifted or a fucking moron? Both, it would seem.
The black and white notion of people being either smart or stupid is a bit outdated. We can compare the extremes and say with confidence that Albert Einstein was in general smarter than George W Bush but even in that case, we can probably find areas where W was better than Einstein. Comparing the "intelligence" of different individuals is probably a simplistic and outmoded idea.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I am surprised how many people agree on how much more intelligent atheists are than the religious. For some people it's a real victory, a win.
And here are some of the remarks or words used to describe the religious, in particular Christian,-
Delusional
Retarded
Fucked
Sick
Mental
Insane
Stupid
etc.
You get the general idea.
If Christians are mentally retarded, as some of you have posted so many times on this forum, and you deem yourselves so much brighter than others, then looking from a conservative, logical and rational standpoint, atheists could still be far below average intelligence.
You only have to be half stupid to be above what you have described the Christians.
It really doesn't say much for you does it?

What would you call people who believe that magic fairy's are real? Or that the Matrix actually exists? Or that Brahma created the universe? You'd probably say that they are wrong, that's not true, and it's not real. To believe in that is delusional.
You sir are not that special and hold delusional beliefs. It's just that it's a delusion that is currently accepted in society. Enjoy it while it lasts.
