Angry, condescending atheists

RE: Angry, condescending atheists
Seriously though, Dawkins' quote would be a lot less dickish if he replaced the word "ignorant" with "malinformed"... same meaning, but the word "malinformed" has less of a bite to it.

I never get where people see that. He seems both brutally honest and remarkably polite at the same time to me. Hitchens seemed more of an asshole than Dawkers, in my book.

It's not dickish to call ignorant people ignorant. And we're ALL ignorant about something.

He's made it very clear repeatedly that when he says "ignorant" he means literally ignorant, that we're all ignorant about something and it's nothing to be ashamed of.

Even when he says things that are so-called assholish he's still bending over backwards to make it clear what he means and be as polite as he can. Can't say I blame him when he gets genuinely frustrated and pissed off when moronic fucktards can't even see how hard he's trying to be polite even when he goes out of his way to do that when they don't deserve it.

And, I've never known Dawkins call anyone a "moronic fucktard". I'm a really nice guy, and he's more polite than I am.

Yes.

"I will kill you!" is a threat.
"I will probably kill you!" is not.

I have enjoyed Richard Dawkins over the years. His lay books, various videos and podcasts are quite accessible, at least to me, and the few scientific papers I have read are excellent, although some of what is in them is beyond my current understanding. He has a singular wit, in the British style, that I usually find quite clever.

In more recent years, he has ventured into subjects other than biology, with some success (at least better than some others' similar undertakings). In these other areas, I don't consider him an expert or scholar, but more of an explorer.

He puts his foot in his mouth on occasion, but this occurs rarely.

I believe access to Dawkin's material has improved me overall, as I suspect it does for most others who take the time to absorb his work.

Are you implying that there are some too ignorant to comprehend the word "ignorant"?

RE: Angry, condescending atheists
Dawkins is a hero for atheism. I have read the God Delusion and The Greatest Show on Earth ... both absolutely amazing books. He has taken on a huge undertaking of championing atheism, and for that I truly thank him, for I believe it is a critical task for our human race.

I certainly appreciate his lack of tact, after having to deal with theists all these years. At some point I would suggests his description of creationist theists as stupid and idiots, is a gross understatement. His intolerance of theists is quite frankly, right on the money.

For you theists, stop for a minute and listen to him. If you don't then your wear the stupid idiot description very well.

Lol...
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
