Kentucky Republicans kill bill to limit child marriage because parents should have right to marry off kids

The bill would require that the judge deny the right to marry if there was a pregnancy that resulted from the adult spouse molesting the child.

This bothered Kentucky Republicans, including state Sen. John Schickel of Boone County, which includes suburbs of Cincinnati.
“I had some problems with the bill,” he said. “Decisions involving a minor child should be made by a parent, not the court.”

As someone who got married at 12--I can safely say that marrying when you are that young even when pregnant--is NOT a good idea. I wish someone had told me that when I got married. But I was always told that's what you're SUPPOSED to do. And at age 12, who was I to question it?

I don't see the harm in waiting until you're 18 to get married. If you're REALLY in love, then when you turn 18 you get married. Or you get emancipated from your parents, and then get married at 16. What you don't do is get married before you become emancipated. If you're not fit to become emancipated, you aren't fit to be married. Doesn't matter if you're pregnant. Doesn't matter if your religion says so. Does it have some sort of expiry date? You already had sex before marriage.

It's the "L-ARGO" syndrome.  Lots of people are Law-Abiding Responsible Gun Owners right up to the moment when they open fire on a shopping mall.  At that point they BECOME criminals.  At that point the police can intervene.

Do you really expect them to put 24 hour surveillance ( 3 shifts) a minimum of 6 deputies into a stakeout on one guy?
