My view regarding guns in the USA as a foreigner.

My view regarding guns in the USA as a foreigner.
I believe something has to be done regarding guns in the USA to reduce/stop the mass shootings.

Here where I live, if you want to carry a gun either for self-defense or shooting practice, you need to pass 3 tests: theoretical test, practical test, and psychological test. Of these exams, the most important one is the psychological test, of course. Only people with the 3 exams approved should be able to buy guns.

I believe this to be the best way to control guns in the USA, since getting rid of them is basically an impossible task.

1.  Stop the manufacture, importation or sale of anything more rapid fire than a revolver.  Place a huge tax on ammunition for what remains.  Shotguns and actual hunting rifles will remain legal.  So too shall muskets for ceremonial militia groups.  People need to be reminded of what the fucking militia was

2.  Set a date for a National Gun Buy Back period.  I know 2d amendmentards never read the rest of the fucking thing but the 5th Amendment requires that no one be deprived of property without due process and just compensation.  Expensive?  Yes.  But we can save a lot of money on health care from all these shootings and divert money from arming the cops with tanks to getting guns off the street.  Once the deadline has passed anyone with a weapon which does not pass muster is, by definition, no longer a Law-Abiding Responsible Gun Owner ( a L-ARGO) and is subject to having their guns confiscated.

3.  Take all the weapons recovered in step two, melt them down and cast a monument to the victims of the NRA's unholy crusade for profit.  It can be in the shape of a gigantic prick with FUCK THE NRA inscribed on the balls and placed opposite the Washington Monument.  I hope it isn't bigger but that can't be helped.

4.  We can all meet on the National Mall, burn Wayne LaPierre at the stake and congratulate our fellow survivors of Gun Nut Nation's reign of terror.

In the immediate aftermath of a mass shooting in the US, gun sales actually increase due to people wanting to "defend themselves". This, of course, leads to more mass shootings in the future and the cycle continues...

Just read that the NRA are suing Florida over a new law that requires you to be 21 before you buy a gun.  *sigh*

Preaching to the choir here.

The SCOTUS just ruled - or rather refused to hear - a gun control case last month.  Good luck assholes.

As a strong supporter of the second amendment, I can get behind this. Not really sure the righties are so uptight over this sort of thing. We make people pass tests to drive a car, so why not guns? I understand it's a false equivalency, however that is separate from my point.

[edit]

I can pull the trigger on a revolver as fast as a semi-auto.

Got no problem with a sin tax on ammo, but some people will still pay it. And did you just create a black market? Does this address the re-loaders?

Can I keep my 12ga pump shot gun with the attachable 20 round drum?

Define "actual hunting rifle".

Just playing devils advocate. It's more complicated. Does not mean that we should not strive for more control and background checks/tests.

We don't need rifles that have more than one round available without reloading. Bolt-action long guns are fine for hunting. If you've ever seen "The Magic Christian"* there's a scene where the lead actor "hunts" birds with an anti-aircraft cannon. Not very sporting, eh mate?

Does that mean side by sides and over unders are in or out?  How about a pump?  How about a full auto recoiling barrel /w five rounds? Floor bolts, or mag/drum bolts, overhead cartridge bolts? Why bolts at all, why not breach loaders? Breach would probably be the best way to positively ensure that a given firearm only has the ability to fire a single round before meaningful reloading.

Rossi sells a takedown universal receiver for a 20/22/308 in breach, you have to pull the hammer back and errything, and theres a hex key bolt under the hammer preventing it from flooring. I don't think there;s anything in N. America you couldn't drop with it...though I probably wouldn't go hunting cougars or bears or boars alone with a breach loader (unless I was pretty high up in a stand).

Boars, maybe...my cuzzo welded me a steel spear with a crossbar behind the point....but my 303 already has a bayonet lug. Wink

If it's pure sport, though.......tracking, trapping, and ambush /w a trad bow would take the cake, eh?
