RE: Few questions...who you are?
From arguing with my dad a lot in my life then mending fences a few years ago and my experience with knowing and being loved by my grandmother, those two things have defined me. For better and for worse. I avoid conflict because of my dad but have learned to grow in strength through my grandmother’s death. I would also say coming back to my belief in God (for me) has helped me find peace. I would say though that my time as an atheist transformed my life in ways I never would have thought and opened my mind to understanding others.

That’s who I am!

Genetics, plus environment.
So say we all.

I don't think I ever decided to be whatever it is that I am.

Just to remove some physical shortcomings, like myopia and weak ankles.

To see better, to be less prone to suffering injury.... That sort of thing.

I'm just someone the same as anyone else.
Older and wise enough to know I'm not more special than anyone else but that I do matter as much as anyone else.
Part happy-go-lucky, part angry old man.
Identity can be such a ball and chain.

I think a lot of what I am can be traced back to various less-than-pleasant encounters with people, starting with some teasing in kindergarten and dealing with a mentally ill family member.  It resulted in a lot of chronic stress but also gave me a solid internal locus of control -- If I couldn't trust them I had to trust myself, and rather than expecting others to provide what I needed, I went out and created it myself.

It took me until about age 14 to get a handle on the emotions that these encounters triggered.  If I could change anything, I'd like to have that insight at a younger age, reduce my baseline stress, and build up a few more people skills.  I've come a long way, but there's still traces of the early, hurting me that I'd like to uproot.
