Why is it so hard to believe that the worshipers of a god who is obsessed with blood and death would believe that killing is a good way of getting rid of unbelievers? I know there's a rule against killing, but then the book goes on to give 101 reasons why it's ok to kill people.

Here’s the thing: even positive/gnostic atheism in and of itself has no doctrine.  There’s no inherent demand or order in any flavor of atheism to eliminate religious practice altogether.  No, such acts committed by a state are simply a way to oppress, homogenize, and control people.  It’s really no different than our history of forcing slaves or indigenous peoples to practice Christianity rather than their own beliefs.

You're right.  Theism has no particular doctrine.  Very good, you're starting to understand basic words and concepts.

But, see, now you're trying to make atheism responsible for what particular regimes believing in particular things did.  That would be like me blaming theism on the whole for, say, the Crusades.  Do you understand how idiotic that is?

If you want to say that Stalin's form of state mandated atheism was evil, I will agree with you.  If you want to say that his brand of atheism is indicative of atheism in general, then I will continue to mock you for being an idiot.

Keep in mind, it's far easier for us to paint Christians and other religious adherents with a wider brush because you do follow a doctrine.  We can point to a specific set of beliefs and actions required by your faith(s), and then point out the immorality of them, or the inconsistency of them, or, in the case of the cartoon, point out how many Christians merely pay lip-service to the ideals they profess to hold, and don't actually want to live the way their religion mandates, making them hypocrites of the worst kind.

So, like I said, atheism in and of itself isn't a religion.  It has no mandate.  Anything purportedly done in the name of atheism is something that's been layered on top of it.

The original point was that as soon a Stalin enters the conversation, it's "he didn't do "X" because of atheism" which is patently untrue.

I never said anyone did something because they were white; I said white folks rolled a certain way (historically). If you can't look back through history and see this, then you're being disingenuous.
