Civility subsection suggestion
RE: Civility subsection suggestion
Maybe rewording and tightening the flaming rule a bit would alleviate CL's concerns while not having to resort to dicing the site up with sub forums. I mean, insults can be fun, and I've run afoul of the flaming rule as it's stated now. But, there's absolutely no need for anyone to pitch an insult in every single post they make in a thread.

The problem is people don’t report this often enough. If someone is pitching an insult in every post, the best thing members can do is report one of the posts and mention in the report comment that they are doing it multiple times.

This is because we have a document to reference in order to determine whether the rule is broken.

As the originator of the suggestion, give us a blurb that is a prototype of what the a rule defining civility would look like. Examples are not really helpful in this instance, and the thought that "civil" doesn't really need to be explained is a bit short sighted.

Oh I hadnt seen this post lol. That's why I didn't answer sooner. Sorry!
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I think it would be best if it were like the mafia forum where people can see the threads but they cannot comment unless they request to join the group. Then if someone breaks the rules all we would have to do is remove them from the group.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Public for vewing, but request/approval to join.

And I like the name The Classroom Subforum Smile

And it would be beneficial, I think, to have a place where interested parties could engage in honest discussion without having to comb through the name calling, shit posting, etc.

It was just an idea of what I thought might be a good addition to the forums. It was not a complaint.

I didn't say you were complaining. However, it is redundant to start yet another sub-forum when we already have a sub-forum for the purpose that you are stating. You want to be able to have civil discussion without all of the fluff, take it to the debate section because that's precisely what you are asking for: A debate.

In this whole time of discussion, have you actually ventured in there to read the rules and what it's about yet? If not, I suggest you take a peek. It's not a rigid as you think and you can implement many of the things you are asking for in a sub-forum.

Cool.  Where?  I'd like to see if there are already rules.  I'll look at the home page.

The debate forum rules are at the top of the forum page: https://atheistforums.org/forum-23.html

You are so level headed.  Scary.
