Just how stupid were the ancient Israelites?
|
Best guess is that it is a corruption of the name of Ahmoses I, the pharaoh who drove the Hyksos out of Egypt.
Ahmoses means "son of Ah" the moon god. "Moses" by itself, means "son of fucking nobody!" RE: Just how stupid were the ancient Israelites?

The levites had a habit of giving their children egyptian-ish names. They even described the tabernacle as an egyptian ao command tent.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

From another discussion of Ahmose I.
Quote:Ahmose I slowly drove the Hyksos back to their capital Avaris (location on one of the eastern branches of the Nile in Lower Egypt), once here Ahmose laid siege to the city. Ahmose had troubles of his own with his kingdom, he left the siege of Avaris in the control of his military commanders so that he was free to placate a rebellion in the Theban region. When Ahmose returned to Avaris he found that negotiations had been taking place between the Hyksos and his military commanders the Hyksos were allowed to leave Egypt gracefully in return for surrendering the city (1532 BC). Sound familiar? RE: Just how stupid were the ancient Israelites?

Heres some more ammo, if you're interested, Wyrd. Certain sects of judaism (and some scholarship) claim that the song of deborah and the song of miriam are some of the oldest stories in the bible. They come from two culturally disparate sources.
Amusingly, the song of deberah contains no note of levi. The song of miriam....fails to include isreal. The prevailing theory is that there were western asiatics travelling to and fro from egypt and thus there would have been cultural transfer, but also cloisters of cultural isolation. Exodus is, in all likelihood, a myth trying to make sense of the confluence of these two traditions. How, in displacement (one way or another) they came to be the same people, and worship the same god. Obviously, none of this happened in the 12th century bc or whatever fucking nonsense people need to invoke to convince themselves that the stories are literally true because theyre..like, really really old..and stuff.

The Hyksos date from the Second Intermediate Period after the collapse of the Middle Kingdom. Speculation is that the Hyksos were originally brought in as mercenaries by one of the Middle Kingdom pharaohs. The stories told by Manetho date from nearly 1,400 years later and archaeology has found no evidence of any widespread invasion at that time, i.e. cities with destruction layers. So it looks as if the Hyksos, probably being a cohesive force with superior weapons ( the compound bow and horse drawn chariots) simply over-awed the native Egyptians who had fragmented in quarreling factions. Even with that, the Hyksos never did expand their control to Upper Egypt. That was under the rule of the 14th Dynasty and later the 15th (Ahmose I - founder) which kicked their asses out.
In any event, no room for any fucking "moses." RE: Just how stupid were the ancient Israelites?

Jews are still a huge problem today. Seems like everywhere they go they're conniving people and subverting nations.
