What's your longest trek?
#21
RE: What's your longest trek?
When I moved to California in 1999 I packed whatever I could fit into my car and drove solo from upstate NY to Sacramento, no cell phone, and this was before GPS was available.
It took me about $95 in gas (cheap back then) and 50 hours total stretched out over 5 days because I only drove during daylight hours. I stayed in hotels in podunk towns off the freeway at night.

Farthest I’ve been from western/north central PA Is working in LA/ and a couple of personal trips to Cancun by plane. Longest by bike or the cage (car) is 3000 mi to Tampa in 9 days on the bike. Longest in a day is 850 mi from Helen Georgia. I would have went for an unofficial iron butt (1000 mi in 24hours) but it was raining the last 4hours and my open air filter was having trouble breathing.

Western/ north central PA? I grew up across the state border in western NY. Worked a few years in McKean County. It's a beautiful area.

I drove from LA to the DC In five days in 2015. I took the southern route through Arizona, New Mexico Texas Louisiana and then up to Arkansas,Tennessee and Virginia. I then drove from DC area up through New York Pennsylvania Ohio Illinois Iowa South Dakota Wyoming Utah  Nevada and back to California in 2017 and again in five days and four nights.

The greatest distance I ever drove in one day was about 1100 miles from Madison Wisconsin to Long Island New York in about 17 hours .

The longest distance I have ever walked in one day was in  sequoia national Park where I covered 31 miles Waze 6000 feet of elevation change in about 19 hours.

I once walked the entire length of Hadrian's Wall in full Roman military 1st century uniform for charity.

Having lived in the UK, Canada, USA, Bosnia and Romania I have travelled quite a bit and have been to every European country as well. Plus North Africa and the middle-east.

Haven't travelled too much since I moved home to the UK; just re-discovering my own country after a long hiatus.

My utopia is flying if the turbulence was 100% gone. Since it isn't I still hate both flying and driving.

I find that most of the time people who bothered by turbulence say its because they're afraid it will damage the plane and cause an accident. So I tell them that if you put enough G's on the plane to break the wings and make it fall out of the sky, those G's would have killed you before anything on the plane let loose. Funny but knowing that doesn't seem to make them feel better.
