Eternity in Heaven - Scary?

If that does not frighten you, nothing will! Hah! Well when you put it that way it does sound quite frightening! Does anyone know the specifics of what it's supposed to be like - or is it just that it's supposed to be nice? Since I have no reason to believe it exists, the nature of heaven is irrelevant to me. But I can speculate. Suppose I die and go to heaven. I ask myself, in what state am I supposed to be when I get to heaven? Will I be as I was when I was a happy-go-lucky child, or will I be as I was, when a young adult at my prime, or will I be an old person, if I get that far in life? What about all of those around me? In what capacity will they be there? Will heavenly residents be there in the capacity that achieved at the time of their deaths? What if I die with Alzheimers or dementia? Would I like an eternity in that capacity? What about those who die as young vibrant adults? Do they get to "exist" with others who are dementia sufferers for eternity? Just think about it. Perhaps there'll be some magical transformation, and all residents will become a happy soul. Oh what bullsh*t it is ! ! ! Maybe I wouldn't give a rat's ass if I'm up there with 'dementia' - let others wipe my ass for me, or maybe I won't have an ass to wipe. Who knows? No one knows - at least not to my knowledge does anyone know.
There are no atheists in terrorist training camps.
I've never believed in an afterlife, but I find the idea of any eternal existence horrifying. The only exception would be if I had complete control over it.

An eternity surrounded by some of the Christians on this site? No thanks. Not unless God allowed some some sort of segregation in heaven

Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
I've never really given it a thought, but I don't think I particularly want an eternity in heaven. Yes, it scares me. I don't want possible anxiety and shadows of past self harm and hopelessness to follow me forever, thank you very much.

We don't know. There are no material credible evidence, like the one they demand in court to even prove that there is afterlife. It's like seriously discussing the pros and cons of being invited in to Hogwards...

Heaven doesn't seem to be described as a nice place. Like, take the character of archangel Michael. He is general of armies in heaven. And yes Bible says Heaven is filled with armies. Would you want to live in a place filled with armies? I wouldn't. Also Bible says there were wars in Heaven like Revelation 12:7. If it happened before why couldn't it occur again? Also it would be hard to imagine a war without lying, stealing, cheating, brutality, killing, inhumanity, and all the other activities we have all grown so accustomed to in bad parts of this world. So, to be frank, Heaven described in the Bible sounds like a shithole.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

As an atheist, I am absolutely delighted by the prospect of an eternal Heaven, one with endless, everlasting bliss. Problem is that such does not exist, and "wishing it so" does not change that reality. Nihilism sucks, but fantasy sucks even more. |
