I'm not real sure of my facts here, but didn't the U.S. just effectively provide subsidies to U.S. businesses and corporations via a tax cut? If so, your complaint about Canada's trade practices seems a little hypocritical.

They're squeezed because no one wants them anymore. People get their news in other ways.

The US corporate rate is still higher than the effective Canadian rate.

Why not get started on it. Maybe it should be looked at.

It will take time to see if Trump's ideas work. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. At least he's trying.

You know that Congress gave away its rights regarding tariffs to the executive branch, and they could take them back if they wanted. No one in Washington actually wants to do any work though, except working to get re-elected.

That's true to some extent. The question, for me, is what is the quality of news people are receiving 'in other ways'? We've repeatedly seen how childishly simple it is to manipulate opinion online, and we have way too many people who don't seem able to distinguish between solid, reputable reporting and whatever things get passed around on social media platforms. How much local news do you really consume in other ways? The local TV news broadcasts? Those are superficial, at best, and everyone knows it. Besides, network news is under the same pressures as print. 

Standing up for local and regional print journalism is a (probably Quixotic) stand in favor of a fact-based public discussion. Otherwise, all we're left with are a welter of amateur Op-Ed pieces that people can access 'in other ways'.
