California Sikh man brutally beaten by men shouting ‘Go back to your country’

50-year-old Surjit Malhi had been posting signs in support of a local Republican campaign for Congress when he was confronted by two men waiting by his truck. They threw sand in his eyes, and as he tried to clear his vision began beating him in the head, neck and shoulders.

As they hit him they shouted “Go back to your country!”

An angry white woman who identified herself as a Trump supporter called police Thursday morning to report a black state senator who was merely talking with voters outside a Brooklyn subway station.

Sen. Jesse Hamilton was speaking with constituents at the Parkside Ave. subway entrance in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens when the woman, who spoke with an Eastern European accent, accused Hamilton of being too strong in his support for immigrants, his office said.

As she was checking out, Bates said that a police officer approached her and asked if she was shoplifting.
“Mid-transaction, a police officer approached me and insisted he wanted to speak with me,” Bates said. “He asked what was under my shirt.”
She said that she thought it was a joke.
“So, my response was, ‘Twins,’” Bates said. “I’m 34 weeks with twins. I’m having a boy and a girl.”
She said that the officer didn’t believe her and asked her again.
“At that point, to avoid him asking me again, I actually lifted my shirt just a little bit, just to expose my belly, so he could see that I’m just a regular pregnant person buying school supplies,”

Ah ha! What a lame excuse by the black person! Who in their right mind buys schools supplies for children who haven't even been born yet?!

Clearly the Staples manager was fully justified in his suspicions and in calling the cops.

Okay, sarcasm over, in case anyone was thinking I was actually trying to justify the actions of the Staples staff. I guess we can add "shopping while black" to the list of dumbfuck things racists are triggered by.

I used to work in retail, and it was made very fucking clear to me that unless I specifically witnessed a customer conceal an item AND THEN physically leave the store with the concealed item, that I wasn't to take action. There could be absolutely no interruption in my observation of the customer ... no moment that could prevent me from stating in court with total certainty that the customer continued to conceal the item once they left the store. Lawsuits for that shit cost way more than any individual could possibly stuff under their clothes and exit the store with.

And if I was confident that a customer was trying to shoplift, my instructions were to offer customer service, not to call the police.

As I see it, the problem is twofold for Staples if this woman decides to sue them: 1) no employee witnessed her concealing items; and 2) she hadn't actually left the store before being questioned by the police.

Staples should consider themselves lucky if this woman doesn't sue them. It's already cost them them amount of her purchase, even though she was completely willing to pay them for the supplies.
