Hi! I just found this forum about 5 minutes ago, and figured I might as well register.

So, to state my beliefs up front, I am a Conservative Jew. I believe that G-d created the universe 14 billion years ago. I also strongly disapprove of forcing one's beliefs on others, whatever they are. For that reason, I find I get along better with most atheists better than Christian fundamentalists. I believe that it is important to seek out differing opinions and to engage in reasoned debate. I also believe it is important to laugh as often as possible. Here's to many interesting debates and hilarious jokes!

Oh hell no! I have mostly scorn for that bunch of heretics. In my opinion, Jewish law makes vaccination mandatory. Whatever objections they have fail in the face of the principle of pikuach nefesh - almost any commandment may be violated in order to save a life. For example, if you're starving in the wilderness, and you see a wild boar run by, you can kill it and eat it despite it being non-kosher. Or, to use a more practical example, a doctor may freely use technology on the Sabbath in order to carry out his duties.

It's Mesh-a-khad. It has no real meaning, btw. It was the name of my most recent D&D character when I first joined the old Wizards of the Coast forums, and I've used it ever since as my handle.
