What do you think about aliens?

RE: What do you think about aliens?
I suspect that the first intelligent aliens we encounter will have skin made of latex.  Life imitating art.

Is it possible to ever meet an unintelligent alien?

"Hey frog face, I'll give ya a hundred bucks for that shiny rust bucket of yours? What say?"
No God, No fear.

Europeans bought Manhattan from natives for "$24 worth of beads". The natives were just there for a day's fishing. I think they met unintelligent aliens. Wink

I think alien people are vanishingly rare, and that we are likely the only technological civilization in our galaxy, and possibly the only one in our galactic cluster. Many of the exoplanets we've detected could harbor life, but people are another matter. Eukaryotes with mitochondria were a leap that might be far from inevitable since it was very likely based on ingesting something that could survive to become a symbiont. Our proportionately very large moon had a lot to do with the path evolution took on Earth, including protecting us from meteorites and accelerating the transition for sea to land-based life. I would be a little surprised if there's not another technological civilization anywhere else in the entire universe; but I wouldn't be surprised at all if we never find an independently-evolved invertebrate in the next million years. There's a good chance we're an Elder Race ™. If we survive long enough, our galaxy could become much more lively, but it will be derived from Earth-life spread by us.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

RE: What do you think about aliens?
Why many of us believe that aliens is hostile? i think that stupid (like Star Wars and Star trek idea of high-tech civilisations still fighting like angry monkeys). We just project our own primitive mindset on what we think high-tech civilisations (who left behind millions years of tech evolution, instead of ours few thousand). We become less and less violent, less wars, more politicaly correct with years tech evolution passed.  Now imagine highly intellectual aliens who just wanna kill us for funSmile. Its same like nobel prize laureates who likes kill people for fun after work in the lab. Ridiculous.
I think they exist of course (look up fo billions of stars and exoplanets), but if the even invent fast way of travel - they dont wanna visit our primitive world with religious wars, they dont want to disrupt our evolution. We need to evolve for them.

Clearly, you haven't see the fine documentary 'Mars Attacks'.

Quote: i think that stupid (like Star Wars and Star trek idea of high-tech civilisations still fighting like angry monkeys).

Why WOULDN'T they still be fighting like angry monkeys?  The notion that societal evolution necessarily proceeds towards a more peaceful outlook is little more than wishful thinking.

Why do you presume that other civilizations would persist for millions of years?

Quote:We become less and less violent, less wars, more politicaly correct with years tech evolution passed.

If you imagine that human beings are less violent now than in the past, you are either hopelessly naïve or unforgivably unobservant.

Quote:Now imagine highly intellectual aliens who just wanna kill us for fun

Maybe that IS their idea of fun.  Some serial killers kill for fun, why should aliens be excluded?

Quote:Its same like nobel prize laureates who likes kill people for fun after work in the lab. Ridiculous.

How do you know they don't?  These are really, REALLY smart people who should be able to cover their tracks pretty well.

Now who's projecting?

Quote:We need to evolve for them.

You could be right. We need to evolve immunity to the effects of the Kill-O-Zap blaster.

What exactly is your definition of "less violent"
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
