I can get behind a planet where cat food is a menu.

I suppose my chief question about this is:  Why do they persist?  Their 'logic' never works to prevent an arrest, and their arguments never work to prevent a conviction.  They must by now understand that, by refusing to present a driving license and vehicle registration at a simple traffic stop, life is going to get a whole lot more complicated for them.

What do they hope to gain?

It's their religion. They are certain they are right and they just have to show the light to the masses and things will be "better".

I mean, there is something that in the psychology realm is the personal space notion, like a guy coming onto one's face screaming with spit amongst words, that could cause a reaction from me, as that isn't a good way to talk to other people. Encounters like that usually end up bad.

The cops here are very polite. I have been arrested 3 times (in the time drug use was a crime) and they always asked "please take a seat on the car and accompany us to the station". Politeness goes a long way.

These guys in the OP are like Anarchist, right?

I suspect they WANT to get arrested.

There was a guy in full BDU's toting an M-1 Garand and a 1911a in open carry - marching up and down Westnedge Ave (a shitload of malls and such) in Kalamazoo MI - in about 1989 or so.... (I happened to see this genius at gun show, bragging about it).

They asked him if he would like a ride home. (This part I got years later - from the arresting officer -who I worked with at a gun shop)

Apparently Garand boy had some sort of "point" he was trying to make - but the cops I guess were too dense to comprehend.

They did eventually arrest him for brandishing. Of course resisting arrest and striking an officer ended up getting added....

Like a dumb drunk - Garand boy was proud of his display of shitheadedness...

Go figure.

But don't expect it to make sense.

Batshit crazy rarely does.

I've seen stories like that.  Apparently, some places in the US allow open carry if you're fishing or hunting (which makes sense to me) or if you're on your way to engage in those activities.  Some fuckwit tested the second part by just roaming round a car park with an semi-automatic rifle and a fishing pole, claiming he was 'on his way to go fishing.'

Open carry is legal here.

It' s all about attitude.

If you have a bad one - the cops will jack you up.

I have carried open - and had interaction with a deputy at the store. I was in a good mood - he was in a good mood - the store owner was happy - no problems........

Step on the cop' s toes and call him an oinker?

Ya get what's coming.

To be honest, I'm not sure WHAT their motivation is.

Every time I've ever been arrested (sober), I've been polite and cooperative, and the police have responded in kind. But these SC chin-dribblers are belligerent from 'go'.  'I don't have to show you my license', 'I'm not driving, I'm travelling', 'I don't consent to you pulling me over', and so on.  It pretty amusing until the cops break the window, taser the guy, and handcuff him, at which point it becomes fall-off-your-chair hysterical.

Most of the "Sovereign"s I've personally encountered here in the US have had it in for the federal government and also tend to be the radical gun owners.
