It's not really an issue of rushing it. It's an issue of trying to balance two massive disasters (this massive fucking pandemic and the economic shutdown that's happening as a result of our valiant attempts at not overwhelming the healthcare system, and we're not talking about the gains to the Dow Jones that Trump likes to trumpet, we're talking the people who can barely afford to pay their bills while in quarantine, because, sadly, most people can't afford to stay at home for a year or two) and trying to keep the damage from either one at a minimum. I'm not going to pretend I know exactly what that balance is, but at least I know it's not even close to the time to actually put this plan into action.

And while I think Sungula is assuming she's just a wingnut who hangs on Trump's every word (which I know is wrong) because she's talking about the problems of the "stay at home until the vaccine comes out" model, dude, it's just bad fucking form to talk to her about "your kind."



(disclaimer: just to get the whole thing out of the way, Robert Downey Jr. looks the way he does in this film specifically as commentary on how bullshit Hollywood's execution of representation can be [with a heaping side order of his character being Australian and not getting the massive weight racial issues have in America to this day], and yes, there's another actual black guy there to voice his justified outrage at how bullshit the whole thing is. I know that, but not everyone is easily departed of those old farts that might have something to teach us younguns. We are only stopped by selfishness. Hell, footballers earn more than I could in 7000 years, never thought in living that much, and there are those that can't earn, dying in hunger. Suffice to say, getting paint and other 1st world problems, aren't the real problem.

Ultimately, there is no perfect answer. Only degrees of compromise to this situation.

Of course, ultimately, it will come down to the law of diminishing returns.

Some polly, at some stage, will need to draw a line in the sand and say, we're opening up society again and we'll deal with those "preventable" deaths in a manageable way without overloading the health system. No one will come out and take responsibility for the "collateral damage". It'll just be a price society will want to pay. (self preservation of the status quo)

No winners here, just varying degrees of loss.
And you know what, I can see it already. The second wave comes and takes out some rednecks, who in turn protest further against loosening restrictions too early.

I was watching a nature show about crocks and gators a while ago, and it is unbelievable the bacteria and viruses that don't kill them. They evolved to eat dead rotted meat of their prey, and I don't mean fresh kill. Humans may hunt and kill animals and eat them, I don't hunt, but I sure love a good burger. But I would die if tried to eat a 3 day old dead cow raw.

It does matter how much it hurts economically--especially to those living on the margins and who were already living paycheck to paycheck. The ability to earn an income in not simply a matter indulging in luxury and treats for millions of Americans; it's a matter of life and death. 

There are more than enough Americans who will not stand idly by for 1-2 years being locked down like inmates, lose everything they've ever worked for, and/or risk being unable to feed their families until the virus "disappears"--Not when there are other conceivable ways to mitigate the mortality rate while waiting on a vaccine.

The virus is not ending anytime soon. There's also a possibility that a vaccine will never come to fruition, and the virus will become endemic and never ever go away.

Dunno about over there in kangaroo land, but we are lifting restrictions, slowly. Masks and social distancing still online, so are festivals, and other mass gatherings cancelled. Perhaps its the best to slowly regain the economy while keeping safe measures.

I have been working normally, food stuff, masks already required. Meh. By my temper, C19 would quarantine itself from me.
