I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume this is your way of criticising both sides of the political aisle, since it's the left (and the Dems) who've been pushing for mail-in voting for precisely that reason. That said, the evidence that the protests helped spread the virus is actually shockingly slim. Why, yes, I'm actually surprised by this, too.

If you’re talking about the evidence for protests spreading the virus, well, that doesn’t apply in this case. Many epidemiologists actually expected that the protests would lead to at least some spiking in the rates of COVID spread. The link I posted explained why they didn’t find it. One of the sources cited was Harvard epidemiologist Mark Lipsitch, who said:

“To my knowledge there is no evidence that the spike in cases can be attributed to protests. While I and other epidemiologists have noted the likelihood that some transmissions would likely occur at protests, my understanding is that when testing facilities were opened for those who had been at large gatherings, positivity was very low or even zero among those who came — probably because the protests were outdoors and largely masked.”

So, yes, unless we’re working under very different definitions of “not searched for”, it looks like they did, in fact, search for it and found nothing.
