It does become political yes. Nobody can argue it isn't. But the founders did not put that into the Constitution for political purposes.

They were literally thinking of the abuse of the King they fought to free themselves from. Orwell would have agreed. "Four legs good, two legs bad" and "Double Speak".

When you take into account, not just the power of impeachment, but the 14th and 25 amendments, and not to mention the concepts of oversight and co equal branches, the ideal, isn't to silence political pluralism, but to insure there can be no path to absolute power by any aspect of society.

Yes it is political. But the founders were bent on not letting that lead to authoritarianism.

Brian, the word you’re looking for is partisan.

I think that just because this has been used for political ends doesn't mean that's what the founding fathers intended. We did/do need a way to get rid of someone like T.rump. And bullets are expensive.

Um no. I can and am sure, but the founders I will bet my life on their intent on impeachment, was to avoid the absolute rule like that they fought the war against the king. It being political, has nothing to do with "Should it be political".

I have no doubt that if the likes of Hitler or Stalin or Castro, managed to rise to power in their time, they would want to employ the power of impeachment.

It is unfortunately political, cant argue it isn't. But the truth is only one party is defending a dangerous lie.

If the Founders didn’t intend for impeachment to be a political process, you gotta wonder why they put the process in the hands of politicians. They could just as easily made it a national referendum.

Trump's lawyers just rested their defense.

Easiest case in history. These guys could have stood before the Senate and said, 'Donald Trump is a walking pile of pig shite. He's unfit for office, he incited an insurrection whose sole purpose was to negate the results of a free, fair, and transparent election. He is guilty of attempting to destroy American democracy - guilty, guilty, guilty. Do your duty and convict him' and these spineless, saggy-kneed, lickspittle sycophants would STILL acquit him.
