Exactly.

Not everyone can be at the top.

It's hilarious that you don't see what your minimum wage solution does - it puts more people at the bottom....

You bitch and whine that employers don't pay people better - then by raising the minimum wage effectively put more people at the bottom.

Those folks that were making 15 bucks an hour before that became minimum wage are now minimum wage earners....

And you REALLY expect that an employer who now has more overhead in wages is going to raise the wages of those who were turned into minimum wage earners to make up for it?

Jesus you are fucking stupid.....

Do you have any idea how far apart the "top" and "bottom" are? Also this does nothing to address the logic that we can make the "bottom" higher, and better, than it currently is. You're like a talking point... have you ever really thought critically about this topic before? It doesn't appear you have.

Most corporations pay their executives several million per year, the CEO tens of millions. Then the workers who actually create the value of the company will get the least amount. McDonald's has the largest share of workers on "welfare programs" than any other company, with Walmart in second place. They keep all the revenue at the top, then complain and cry when workers demand more as if they haven't horded it this whole time. This doesn't seem like the wrong way to structure things? You take the system as it is for granted, or even worse, you think it's just. When it so clearly is not.

But you go ahead and put your fellow worker down. They've trained you so well! The millionaires love it. Now roll over! Bark for the ruling class! Good boy! Want a treat?

Oh zark off..

You think a job is a fucking magic piñada that you can keep beating with a stick to get "mo money".

An employer doesn't hire your lame ass to keep you fed and watered (as you obviously believe). They hire people TO MAKE MONEY!

Gotta problem with that you ignorant peon?

No problem - START YOUR OWN BUSINESS - and you can pay all the slackjawed idiots that show up looking for a job top wages.... Don't forget a 401k and comprehensive medical......

You'll be rich in no time.....

At work.

Reading the thread and I muse as always that some of the posters don't see how socialist and communist ideas get traction to be waived around as the 'Poor man's panacea'.

Or as the Punks of the 70's cried "Eat the rich!"

Or going further back with "Let them eat cake."

And you’re operating under the demonstrably false assumption that effort and wealth are directly proportional. They aren’t. Do you know what I call someone who can’t be bothered to look up evidence or assimilate new information and re-evaluate their position on a subject? An unmotivated shlub.

Hahaha another talking point! You keep doing it! Good boy! That's what they like to hear. You can have your treat now, you earned it. You're right, an employer wants to make money. That... does nothing to counter, or even address, anything I said.

I'm treated correctly and compensated very well by my current employer, so no need to do that. But thanks for the idea!

Hard work never killed anyone.

But then, I don't know of anyone resting to death either.

Quote:Karoshi (過労死, Karōshi), which can be translated literally as "overwork death", is a Japanese term relating to occupational sudden mortality. The most common medical causes of karoshi deaths are heart attacks or strokes due to stress and a starvation diet. Mental stress from the workplace can also cause karoshi through workers taking their own lives. People who commit suicide due to overwork are called karōjisatsu (過労自殺). The phenomenon of death by overwork is also widespread in other parts of Asia.

Long term, those things - higher wages, better benefits, etc - are a net plus for a business. Employees who are paid and perked properly tend to be happier and give better service. It also reduces tardiness, absenteeism and (most importantly) turnover, and attracts better applicants. Given that it costs in the neighbourhood of $5K to add a single new employee, it’s in the boss’s best interest to make the available job as attractive as possible.

Yes, companies hire people to make money. Not surprisingly, people go to work for the same reason.
