Total hours worked today: 6
Alright, day three of this project. Got an earlier start and was working practically all day. I drew Jane Jetson's face on in pencil first and so was better able to gauge how it was positioned before applying paint.
I'm pretty happy with the result. But then there was that problem of the cut flat bottom of her waist. It made things look incomplete and floaty. So, I decided to put her inside the Jetson's logo to give it a contained, decal look.
As of now, Jane Jetson is completely finished. I am pretty happy with her overall look and the resemblance captured.
Today was a big Jane Porter day. I got the colors for the yellow dress, parasol, and facial skin tones done. Then I added the brown layered tones for her hair.
That was a lot of fun to do. I also wanted to show how the stencils work, just in case anyone was interested.
Caution to the inexperienced: wait until your colors are dry before you put the next stencil on. Because as you adjust the stencil to get it positioned right, it moves the paint in small smears and it makes previous layers look like shit.
Anyways, that's day three. I'm going to need to redo the pale grey of her safari hat so it looks more safari than it currently does. And I'll need to touch up the brown book and her cheek where the brown was still wet and smudged as I was adjusting the white stencil.

I know that everything doesn't revolve about money, but I really hope that you're getting at least $500 per picture, or you are wasting your time. I do wood working, and most of it is just for me. But I also make other stuff that people want, and don't charge a lot of money. They're all happy to get the product, and in most cases, I'm making well over $150 per hour. Of course, that's only for 3 hours work, on an occasional basis. If I could get a national franchise with an art store, I'd make a mint before the Chinese knocked my shit off and undercut it. But to be honest, they'd probably lose money in the shipping costs alone. Hmm...
If you can get a name for yourself in your town, you could find a nice revenue stream. We'll all be standing back saying, "Shit, I knew him back when!". You are in a market that foreign importers can't really penetrate, given that you're on the scene with what the customers want, which is one-of-a-kind articles that can't be found elsewhere.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

It's for my dad. He paid me back for the paints I bought just for this($172) and he's going to pay me $330 for the time and work. For others I might charge more but...it's my father. He came to me, asked me, and pressured me to do this when I wasn't even aware this market was a thing. He's getting me an airbrush for my birthday in August. Some things are worth the money for doing. Other certain situations and things are worth the opening of my own prospects, introducing new avenues I hadn't considered, and boosting my confidence with how much he roots for me and gets excited about my talents. For my dad I'll do this for $400 total. I do tend to undersell myself also, so, I'll remember this for next time. No more discounts.
Thanks @ onlinebiker !

Looks marvy, you definitely got some talent.
Tell your dad to stop collecting old tires.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Bet he has several cars....
I have a lifetime supply of 15 inch car tires - as several of the cars we have bought came with extras. In fact I have two sets of snow tires on rims - like new.
Too bad tires go bad with age...

I suppose that could be dad's attempt at industrial art. They progressively get smaller until the last one at the top.

You ever try stacking them with the biggest ones on top?

Only when they're spinning.
