Day four. 6 hours of work.

First things first, I had to go back and correct the smudges on Jane Porter, the color of her hat, and add in the purple neckerchief/scarf thing. So, I remixed her skin tones, making her face much lighter(in hopes that the lip color I hope to use will show up against her skin; purple lips work for Jane Jetson but I don't think they'll fly for Porter). I redid her hat to a more beige/grey for the safari look. Then I put in her little necktie and the grey-purple band on her hat. Things will look more complete and defined once I add her linework.

Then, because she had the same problem as Jane Jetson, just cut off in a straight line yet floating in space, I added a box around her, with silhouette of trees and bushes. Now, all I need to do for her is put on her face and outline her.

I also started on the wood planer today next to Jane Jetson. The wood plane has to be done in parts in order to manage the paint. So, what you see is the grey of the stencil color(I just used one stencil for the whole shape, rather than try to freehand it right on the car in straight paint), the middle metallic part of the blades that I finished, and the two wooden knob on front and back that are halfway done. I needed to wait for the wooden textures to dry before adding the realistic accents, so, I just called it after that point. I'll finish them next time.

The only thing left to do after that is the frame of the plane.

In the photo, you might see how I covered her up. It's because I'm a moron. I constantly get paint on the edge and side of my right hand, then I rest it on the car. I didn't mess up Jetson at all but I could see that I could not be trusted and that would fuck with me so bad if I accidentally ended up putting an errant paint smudge on her and had to redo any of her.

The one tree behind Jane reminds me of Beaker from the Muppets.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

"Plane"? OK, I get the homophone, but which Jane uses a plane?! Or does the non-Jetson Jane do wood working? Or the vehicle owner?  Huh

I didn't even think of the implications that the gals were operating the planes. XD I simply thought this was a bit of pictograph wordplay.

Came out alright- no dig- I expected much worse, lol.

Gain any insight on how fickle and tedious automotive paint can be?

No. That has not been my experience at all. Then again, I'm not using automotive paint. I'm using sign lettering oil-based enamel. It has been genuinely a joy to work with it. It dries to touch within 2 hours, so, plenty of time to both work with it on the surface AND get to the next layers without waiting forever. It's vibrant and smooth and I learned that "1-Shot" is named that because you don't need more than one layer to get the color down and looking beautiful. And the colors mix well. I got the very basic colors and passed up the option to get peach colored paint and I'm glad I did because the colors I have can make the skin tones just as well.

But thanks for the vote of confidence.

That paint goes a long way, too. A guy I know (who is a sign painter) on a wood working site, says you can pinstripe something like 40 '50s Cadillacs with one can of gold. Wouldn't surprise me at all!

Preparing the stencil for the plane for tomorrow. I don't know planes.

I've chosen what I think is a Sopwith Camel biplane that will sit next to Jane Porter on the car. Is it important to paint those blue and red targets on the wing and side? Like, it'll look like a biplane if I just paint the wings and body straight colors, yeah? I just want to make sure it'll be identifiable as a "that's a plane, yup" without making it too complicated or specific. I haven't ever looked at any planes for the purpose of painting them before, so, I never noticed the circular patterns they all seem to have on the wings and bodies. Are those important? Or are they brand identifying marks?
