New theistic chew toys wanted!
RE: New theistic chew toys wanted!
Wouldn't that suggest that religions of gods don't actually provide those things, then, if people who don't follow them -rightly or wrongly- can still assert those values? It seems self demonstratingly true that these beliefs we have about value need not and often do not arise out of beliefs about a god.

One prominent advocate of religions of nature goes so far as to suggest that religions of gods are the borrowers here - the divine as a narrative device for describing the world as we see it or wish it to be. That values derived from all of this real stuff have been superstitiously and mistakenly attributed to ghosts for any number of purposes.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Education can be valued by atheists and theists alike, as can attachment to temporal things. But devotion, true devotion, can only be experienced by theists. There is a certain ineffable quality to the idea of God, or gods, that not only cannot be replaced by atheism, but honestly, is so much more beautiful than atheism, that it makes atheism seem disgusting, by comparison.

I don't think that's true, and I just don't know how you could maintain it in the face of the many atheists devoted to whatever cause or effort they're in.

I still don't know what you're talking about by replacing something with atheism. Atheism is the answer to the question of whether or not a person believes in gods - not a replacement for anything. Nor do I understand why atheism would be beautiful - again, it's just the answer to a single line item. You're talking about ideology, at this point, I think. People who don't believe in gods do have ideologies, just like people who believe in gods. The overlap is fairly broad, in general.

As is the concept and perception of ineffability.

Don't forget about all of those mean nasty gods. It's not like there is only your sunshine and lollypops one.

God believers, for their part, don't actually have to believe in any particular value. They can reject transcendent value too.
