Currently looking through The Boondocks to find a good clip of his character from The Boondocks just to make sure I pick one that doesn't drop the N-bomb. I almost got lucky with one of his first scene, but the uploader just had to include a clip of Uncle Ruckus, well, being Uncle Ruckus as a tag.

I never got into MTM, or Lou, the spin off. That was the 70s.
But it makes sense. It paved the way for more female focused lead characters.
An aside though. Nobody fucks with Betty White. Not that she needs the help.
I think you’ll find that Lucille Ball paved that particular way. And Donna Reed. And Cicely Tyson. And Marlo Thomas. And Diahann Carroll.
