Reasonable Doubts did something about this... Fuck I'm going to have to find that and link the episode. It discussed why the religious right thinks the way it does.

And they also attack their own kind. It's funny how people who generally believe in the one God at the end of the day can hate each other and say the other churches are wrong and don't worship in the right way. I think this is the reason I'm against Christians so much. If there's one thing I really can't stand, it's hypocrisy. And Christians tend to be full of it. They go around trying to impress each other with how religious they are, but yet they totally ignore what's written in the bible. They're always so willing to point out how immoral and evil non-Christians are, but always look the other way when it's one of their own caught in a scandal. They claim to "hate the sin but love the sinner," yet show nothing but hatred & contempt for those whom they deem the sinners.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

True. It's amazing how they can claim that homosexuality is an abomination because it says so in the bible, yet they don't care if people eat shellfish. Just goes to show how few Christians actually read the book they claim to live their life around. Like someone said, to most Christians, the bible is like a software end-user license agreement. They never read it, but just click on "I agree" at the bottom.
