Windows 11. Install it; Yes/ No/Wait

Windows 11 has been out for awhile.  As I expected, there are many tales of woe online about its bugs.

Right now, my PC is unable to install Windows 11, it lacks a facility. Setting up my PC to enable this facility ('TM') is complex  so I'm in a pickle.  I'm fond of the aphorism "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" .  I  like Windows 10 just fine.

Be most interested to learn about people's experiences with Windows 11.

I'd like to try it, but I accidentally installed Windows 10 in legacy mode, and Windows 11 requires UEFI for the secure boot and TPM stuff. My computer doesn't have a TPM, but it's got some alternate thing in BIOS which supposedly satisfies the requirement. But, again, it needs a UEFI boot. I've got over a terabyte of games installed with Steam. I think that I can back those up and restore them to a new os install, but I haven't tested it. I wouldn't want to have to download those games again with my 1 TB monthly download cap.

I don't think the personal laptop I have here is capable, I don't know if it has a TPM. When I get back the USA at the end of spring I may upgrade the one I have there that definitely has one.

My Gigabyte motherboard doesn't have a TPM, but supposedly there's an Intel BIOS thing that satisfies the requirement.

On Intel machines, it will sometimes be labeled "PTT" or "Intel Trusted Platform Technology." It might also appear as "AMD fTPM Switch."

Waiting. The personal version requires an account at MS. Not doing that. Win10 support dies in 4 years; I'll see how 11 plays out before "upgrading". I have a new Lenovo "All-in-One" I bought a few weeks ago. I'm getting poked to install 11, already.

Hell that's a lot of games.

I have nerdy mate who will spend up to 36 hours straight online playing games. He talked me into buying 'Civilisation' (?) on steam. Have never been able to get into it. I'm very wary; I have an addictive personality, so would almost certainly get addicted. 

To download again, have you thought  of getting say a 2TB external hard drive? I have 1x2TB*** (dedicated to backups on the iMac) and 2x4TB . These hold my films tv etc and are connected to my router to give me an internal network. That means no big files on my computer. Also have the 1TB HDD PC partitioned, the OS is on a 200GB partition..

**here a 2TB HDD is about $80.  SSD about $340

I don't trust Windows. In my 30 years of using that product, it seems every other version sucks. Vista was the biggest clusterfuck so far.

I bought a new laptop a couple of weeks ago because the keyboard on my 2012 model was getting flakey. It prompted me to upgrade to 11 during the setup process so I did. So far no issues, and it isn't so different that I had problems figuring anything out. My only complaint so far is I was running Office 2013 on the old one and decided to go ahead and make the jump to the subscription version of Office 365 so I'd be using the same thing I use at work. When I did that my old copy of Visio, which I like to use for playing around with floorplans, wouldn't work any more so I had to upgrade that pricy piece of software too. But that isn't a Windows 11 issue it is an Office issue.
