You know, the sad thing is that as much of a clusterfuck as the Conservative Party is, especially post-Brexit, they're still behaving in such a way that it actually looks like America'd be better off if we just somehow got King Charles to take us back. As far as I can tell, Britain's right-wing hasn't reached the point where election denialism is a mainstream position. At least it doesn't look like the UK's on the verge of another civil war. At least the last four Conservative PMs have had the sense to not only know when they've completely shit the bed, but resign when they've done so.

That aside (admitting that you’ve lost), Toryism is and always has been inimical to the national well-being.

Not for nothing, but one of the suggested etymologies of ‘Tory’ is that it’s a worn-down form of the Irish word toruidhe, meaning ‘robber’.

Yeah, I freely admit that once you stop emphasising the little things that should be standard operating procedure for a political party in a functioning nation (the ones that the Republican Party has openly discarded), conservatism (even in the UK) is essentially inimical for national well-being. If it wasn't, they would have dismissed the whole Brexit thing after a couple minutes' thought at most. I guess my point is that even Britain's right-wing bullshit is somehow healthier than the US'; even whatever fuckup the Tories bring in to replace Truss is almost certainly going to be better than what's going to happen if the Republicans take back power in America.
