lucent vs reverendjeremiah - debate discussion
This is the official discussion thread for the official debate between lucent and reverendjeremiah. The topic of the debate is theism vs. atheism. Both will be arguing their opponents views as a mental excercise.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

I like it. Because of the role reversal and the strict rules, PERHAPS an honest argument will come out of Lucent's mouth instead of endless repeated questions and obtuse, illogical rhetoric. (Yes I've "debated" with him before ... and I use the term VERY loosely)

It's an interesting format and certainly should be a lively discussion. Since I was previously agnostic, I think I can represent the atheist position fairly well. My hope for the debate is that Jeremiah will honestly represent the theist position.

@Cinjin, you lost that debate. I got you to admit that you have blind faith in your deist God, that your belief is irrational, and that you believe it because you want to. You had lost all credibility at that point and then you ran away. Not much for you to brag about in there.

lol you're not the one that got me to admit that. Long ago I admitted that all faith in any god is blind. Old books are not proof pal. Also, do feel free to post the link to the "debate" we had. It will speak for itself. I ran nowhere. I'm still here. I was very VERY clear on why I closed the thread, and once again, and for the hundredth time: Just because you say something happened doesn't make it remotely true.

Good luck to in this upcoming debate I really truly do look forward to it.

So, just so you know how logic works: when you have a blind irrational faith that you believe because you want to, every criticism you level against Christians or other people who have faith is pure and utter hypocripsy.

Glad the test is successful, save it for the debate.. deadline is Friday now ... let's get it on!

remember I have a long list of fallacies and some of the ones I hate most are misuse of the ad hom and appeal to emotionalism. Hopefully I won't have anything to do but close each round. If you guys want some referees after we can discuss that, I might have some suggestions, otherwise commence the mental masturbation.

Agreed. My belief in some kind of creator being is hypocritical. This too I have admitted on this site long before you ever arrived. It's the paradox of who I am.

But lets not get started on this conversation again. Lets save the verbal beatings for this upcoming debate. Tongue

So they're not going to switch roles? No flipsy flopsy?? http://atheistforums.org/thread-9860-pos...#pid213947
That sucks!! I have no interest in this anymore. Nobody wants to hear Lucent blather on about the shit we've heard him say a thousand times already!

God damnit! I was really looking forward to this one. If you say you're going to do something ... keep your word and fucking do it!! Typical fucking sheep.

(unfortunately, I can't even say that I've lost respect for the man --- I never had any.)

Apparently that is what it appears. RevJ. has until 0700 to change his mind otherwise the debate will be closed officially. If anyone else would like a similar debate please have both parties contact me prior to midnight Sunday.

This debate is officially closed. Barring anyone else wanting to officially debate in the next 48 hours, all user permissions should be restored to normal status.
