I think I'd say "the biscuit can wait."

Throw it out there is no reason for its existence anymore at one point in time I could see its purpose but that time was 1800. frankiej I would leave this country in a heartbeat if I could ive dreamed of moving to canada for years.
Use the type of voting system where you can choose 1st and 2nd picks.
For instance. We don't like Obama or Republican Idiot whichever one that may be. But we know one of those 2 will win. Not in a different voting system. We Vote our number once choice for.. lets say... Nader, then second Obama. So if Nader does not get the popular vote, your vote then becomes Obama vote. Some countries do voting this way... What is is called? Quote:Some countries do voting this way... What is is called? FOX news would call it "socialism."
Regarding leaving this country ...
There are MANY things that suck here and I pay a fortune to assholes that I didn't elect to make decisions that I don't want. The bankers are criminals. The politicians are corrupt. The health care is so expensive that any ailment can end up being a sentence of debt and poverty, and it's not unlikely that some gun toting redneck teenager could shoot my son in his own classroom. There is some seriously fucked-up shit here and I can't really blame anyone for wanting to leave. ...but it's home, and I could never leave ... and for all we do wrong, we occasionally get something right. In addition, knowing that I have fellow countrymen like DiestPaladin, Min, Shell B, Syn, Summer and a host of other intelligent Americans reminds me that not everyone here is an idiot and that maybe someday this country will be more than occasionally right. Cheers you beautiful Brit bastards. (December 16, 2011 at 1:48 pm)Minimalist Wrote:Quote:Some countries do voting this way... What is is called? I would love to be on Sean Hannitys show. Frank Luntz... that guy need to go on a diet, and get the shit kicked out of him daily.
I daresay that I think our European members do not quite grasp the reality of the modern American point of view which afflicts a majority of people here.
To sum it up - they think (because they have had it repeatedly rammed down their throats and up their asses) that America is the greatest country on earth and all of our systems are better than anything that you fucking foreigners can come up with. They ignore the country's growing list of problems from dysfunctional schools to crumbling infrastructure to rampant corruption to a for-profit health care system which is about everything except health, and so on, all the while chanting "We're Number One!" Meanwhile, the only thing we seem to lead the league in is arrogance and ignorance. I found this the other day.... it seems appropriate to modern America. Fuck. Now I've ruined my good mood. We have PR in Ireland, but thanks to civil war politics we've ended up with two large right wing parties, a small left wing party that will do whatever the fuck it's told and a mass of independents who contribute nothing outside of their constituency.
Compared to the American system though, or indeed the British, it seems light years ahead. How can you accept a system where you win the popular vote but lose the election? "Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from weak minds." Einstein When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life. - John Lennon |
