This never made sense to me with you hard core believers in an afterlife that’s supposed to be paradise.

I never said I believe in an afterlife, I really don't. This life is all we have. Non-existence serves no purpose.

But if you lost the ability to feel pleasure in those activities, or if you were prevented from doing them (say you were in a torture camp) then death becomes a better option, yes?

For some people at some point suicide is preferable to a life of misery. It's tragic but true.
