Being masochistic helps.

But that would make pain pleasure to you. So dame issue applies.

My shame and envy is off the charts. But it can't be any other way, so I just deal with it the best I can.

But don't you enjoy the shame and envy?

However, it seems highly likely that death is the permanent cessation of consciousness, which would entail the loss of all goods and all potential for goods (like pleasure).  The only way death become preferable to me, then, is if I have lost all realistic hope of future goods and the current suffering outweighs the current goods.

As for pride and shame, I have little of either.  Are they equal to me?  I can't tell.

My suffering is greater than my pleasure and I would still rather be alive. Literally anything is better than not being conscious at all.

This never made sense to me with you hard core believers in an afterlife that’s supposed to be paradise.

My suffering is greater than my pleasure and I would still rather be alive.

It’s like YOU don’t believe this afterlife bullshit.

Can you explain why you would rather suffer then experiencing bliss?

I never said I believe in an afterlife, I really don't. This life is all we have. Non-existence serves no purpose.

To an extent, yes. I enjoy feeling bad. This might not ever change. I'm not sure how it could, given how used to shame and envy I've become.

If I can explain it, it is that he probably believes his suffering is his ticket into heaven.

So now imagine a situation where you had shame, envy, physical pain, and the such like, but without any of the enjoyment. Let's say we just took away your ability to gain any pleasure from anything. And let's also say there was no hope of it ever returning. At that point, death becomes preferable to neverending torment, yes?

I think that we have caught ourselves a queer fish here.
