Rurouni Kenshin. Everybody in the fandom says the new anime adaptation is more faithful to manga than the iconic 1996 anime. So I started to read the manga to see if that was true. Turns out they were wrong.

Thought I would move away from medical history and weird ailments and illnesses but that didn't last. Not sure why this fascinates me so much.
"Compendium of Demonology And Magic" - by an unknown author, circa 1775 - marketed internally as a surviving text from the 1000's. Really great artwork.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
Agency - William Gibson
Basically season two of The Peripheral on Prime Video, which hasn't been filmed yet, and might take a while yet, with two strikes going on.
I tried listening to The Hobbit a while back and didn't like the narrator. Today I started listening to it again but narrated by Andy Serkis. Much better. I think I will enjoy this version a lot.
The Twisted Dead by Darcy Coates. It's the 3rd book in her Grave Keeper trilogy.
Grinding my way through ‘Eye’, a collection of Frank Herbert’s short stories. He was better at novels.
Boru
‘I can’t be having with this.’ - Esmeralda Weatherwax
The Night Land by William Hope Hodgson
A reread. I adore the shit outta this book. The terrors in the Night Land are just perfectly horrifying and monstrous. Although the narrator really could use some cleaning up, he's repetitive and droll at times, once you get past the "as I have stated"s and back to the description of the watchers and the Silent ones and the giants from the pits! Ohhhhoooohhhhhhooo! Also reading Tell Me To Stop by Charlotte Byrd. Intriguing, mysterious. I'm whimsically delighted and I like the protagonist enough to see where this goes. She has a good head on her shoulders but she also takes the risks I want to take, even if they're not the smartest decisions. RE: What are you reading?

The mysterious billionaire she finally meets tells her in exchange for the money he gave her, he wants her to stay with him for 365 days and be his arm candy. And I was like, "Oh noooooo, babygurl!" and deleted it from my Kindle. It's just so boring. I really hoped there was something magical or exciting about where the mysterious check came from. But no, it was just a plain old, "Billionaire wants to groom a whore" plot. |
