Funny you should ask that, just the other day I was think'n about stuff that in no way involved that book just as I have most days of my life.

No body stomped on me in my formative years for not making an effort to to abandon reason and embrace the ...

It is a wonderful thing when you find a connection with thinkers from ages past, it's perverse to think they shouldn't be questioned.

I am pretty sure that my reasons for believing in a monotheistic God are because I really believe in him.

Thanks

I don't think that you used those words correctly. Saying that you believe in god because you believe in him is redundant.
Pel, something that you have to understand is that proof for you is not proof for everyone.

You have a personal belief that the Qur'an is proof of itself and your god.

However, for something to be considered proof to other people, you must be able to witness its effects.

For example, scientists wanted evidence for the theory of evolution. So they cultivated algae, and then watched and recorded as each generation of the algae evolved over time to survive in changing environments. The results and procedure were then released publicly, and it could be tested and replicated by anyone. This is evidence.

A book written a long time ago may give your life moral structure, assuming you read around the immoral parts- but it is not proof for any god, because there is nothing to prove that what is written in the book actually happened.
What falls away is always, and is near.

Agree with the first three.
EDIT:

Didn't realize you were disrespecting toilet paper by comparing it with the Koran. Toilet papers have served humanity well for hundreds of years, it deserves far more respect than the Koran...

One of my biggest problems with the Koran is the language. If Allah really wanted his teachings to be accessible to the masses, why not use the language most prevalent at the time for the literate, Greek or Latin or Chinese? Instead Allah depends on a person in Hira ca. 610 AD who could not read or write himself. Furthermore, as so many Muslims maintain, the Koran should be read in Arabic as any translation is flawed in some way or another, taking messages out of context and so forth.

This makes me very skeptical over any claim of truth or divinity. It is not something I would consider a smart thing for a deity to do.

Agreed leo.

Seems to me that this Koran is just another advertising ploy to bring mercantile to Mecca.

The tower of babel and all such silly allegories seem to work in reverse just as well. It is all evidence of man, and of nothing else.
