The Absurd GOP
RE: The Absurd GOP
Blurring the faces on a copy of video footage isn't, itself, obstruction. It's in service of.

Republicans Trapped in a Hell of Their Own Making (msn.com)

The Republican House majority is teetering on a precipice after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced that he is leaving Congress.

McCarthy, who was ousted from the speakership by a group of hard-right Republicans following an unprecedented motion to vacate in October, revealed on Wednesday that he was "leaving the House at the end of the year."

Following the expulsion of controversial Republican George Santos from the House this week, McCarthy's departure will leave the GOP with just 220 members in the chamber, only two more than the 218 required for a majority.

Disagreements among Republicans have already significantly impacted the governing ability of House Speaker Mike Johnson, McCarthy's replacement. The shrinking GOP majority will likely exacerbate the problem...

Florida GOP Chair Christian Ziegler Rape Allegation: Everything We Know

Quote: Newly released court records have shed more light on the rape allegations against Christian Ziegler, the head of the Florida Republican Party and husband of Moms for Liberty co-founder, Bridget Ziegler.

It was previously reported across numerous outlets that Ziegler had been accused of raping an unnamed woman in early October, per a search warrant affidavit filed in court. No charges have yet been filed against the politician, who has denied the allegations via a statement from his attorney.

The initial police report circulated to various news outlets was heavily redacted, but court documents obtained Saturday by the likes of Florida station, WFTS News, have shed significant new light on the alleged details. Per the new information, the unnamed victim had been a longtime friend of both Ziegler and his wife, and the trio had been in the midst of planning a sexual encounter. At the last minute, Bridget Ziegler said she would be unable to make it, prompting the friend to call off the plans entirely, telling the husband by text, "Sorry I was mostly in for her."

Minutes after sending the message, the woman said she went to let her dog out and found Ziegler outside her apartment in Sarasota. The Florida GOP chair, she alleged, then entered the apartment, forcefully bent her over a barstool, and raped her.

And the shocking twist, it turns out that the Florida GOP seems to actually have standards after all.

From The Hill:Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) offered a grim outlook on the shrinking GOP majority after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced his plans to resign by the end of the month Wednesday.

“Now in 2024, we will have a 1 seat majority in the House of Representatives,” Greene wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Congratulations Freedom Caucus for one and 105 Rep who expel our own for the other. I can assure you Republican voters didn’t give us the majority to crash the ship.”

“Hopefully no one dies,” she added.

Greene was referring to the House Freedom Caucus’s push to remove McCarthy from his role earlier this year and to the 105 Republicans joining almost all Democrats to expel former Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) from the House last week.[/quote]

MAGA Justice Thomas has evaded taxes by not claiming special perks and reporting cash received.

Quote:It turns out Judge Clarence enjoyed a major loan waiver some years back but did not declare it in his tax return. This was the first domino piece to precede the avalanche.

First, records show that Justice Thomas bought an expensive RV over 20 years ago. The loan at the time amounted to $267,230. However, Justice Thomas did not settle the loan, as his wealthy friend took care of it. The bone of contention is that the loan does not appear on any of Justice Thomas’s ethics forms.

It doesn’t end there. In April, ProPublica released that Justice Thomas has been enjoying various gifts, with no disclosure, over the years. Some of the gifts came in the form of full-funded trips and vacations. Interestingly, most of the donors involved have GOP affiliations.

Now, the question is: how can taxpayers be sure that the undisclosed gifts have not influenced the rulings of Supreme Court justices over the years?

Nonetheless, some insist on Justice Thomas’s resignation, citing his lack of integrity. However, the investigation is still ongoing, and no one can predict the outcome of these financial undressings.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Interesting opinion there. Shame you didn't bother to explain why ... so I'll withhold my agreement.
