Then again, there is one key difference in the two scenarios here: namely, that, in spite of the fiery rhetoric Red Foley was spouting, the US' actions during WW2 weren't plausibly genocidal.

The allies didn't invade Poland, Hitler did. The allies didn't bomb pearl harbor, Japan did. And the allies especially didn't target Jews for genocide.

True, but that wasn’t what I was talking about.

Quote:The worst part of this bullshit sky daddy war are that the kids are the victims, having to live in fear of death, both in Palestine and in Israel. And the hate for the other is passed down to the youth on both sides by intolerant fundamentalists.

While I certainly agree with you that Netanyahu is a slug who should be brought up on war crimes charges, this really isn't a 'sky daddy war'. The conflict between Israel and the Arab states is only superficially a religious one - it's mainly political and has been ever since Britain gave away Palestine, which they had no right to do. Sort of like when Adrian IV gave Ireland to England.

And I suspect that, like with Ireland, the whole "losing your sovereignty" thing probably wouldn't have been so bad if the colonizers didn't act like complete cunts. Then again, maybe anyone who doesn't expect that doesn't really understand what power is.

That’s kind of a pipe dream, innit? Colonizers always act like cunts - it’s why they’re colonizers to begin with. It’s like someone who steals your car, but you’re expected to be ok with it because he promises to keep the oil changed. He’s still a car thief and you’re still out a car.
