The Absurd GOP
RE: The Absurd GOP
(May 16, 2024 at 6:14 pm)The Grand Nudger Wrote: Floridians can't afford to live on the florida coast.  Developers and financial firms own that - they'll expect bailouts and they'll get them, all at taxpayer expense.  The maga faithful will be wiped out - further proof, in their minds and lived experience, that the us has become a dystopian hellhole.

Florida having become maga mecca..that's the rosetta stone.

But they vote too, Floridian or no. When they're ass-deep in salt-water and no help's available because of laws, that will get them off their asses, I bet.

That isn't a new situation for floridians. What's happened is how they respond - just food for thought.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

And also how they will respond. Retirees especially don't like pocketbook hits, and they're a lot of the Crusties.

The good thing is they die after you con them into voting for you once, and there's always a new crop in from new york.

RE: The Absurd GOP
So, Gov. Greg Abbott just pardoned Daniel Perry, a Texas man who drove his car into a crowd of Black Lives Matter protestors—before shooting and killing one point blank.

Is this normal?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

For Abbott, absolutely bone-stock normal.

It needs to not be normal. Rioting, IMHO, is justified by this sort of blatant abuse.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

-and that's the real victim of jan6, right there.

In this timeline, rioting is reserved for people who support elected officials right to abuse their office and ruined for everyone else.

Apparently it is now.

Call me a cynic, but I don't have a lot of optimism for the USA's future.
