Stupid things religious people say
RE: Stupid things religious people say
There were also other Satanic attacks on the set of Passion.

Here is what Joe Eszterhas records in "Heaven and Mel"

Quote:Steve Mceveety was one of the producers of "The Passion of the Christ." He talked about the "satanic attacks" they underwent during the making of the movie. One night Caviezel was in his room and he felt Satan coming down from the corner of the room and covering his body. Satan was sticking his entire hand down his throat. Caviezel was suffocating. Then a gigantic hand came down and with one finger, flicked the demon off of him into nothing. Isn't that amazing? The power of God!"
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

My in laws hopped onto that satanic attack train awhile back, mostly about issues we'd had. Pest control, plumbing, kids misbehaving. Seemed to me that satans ground game was weak, if that's what a satanic attack looked like. I mean, fuck, at least lave some strange panties or boots under our beds. I'm just a humble entry level baby eater, but I'd expect there to be more ambition in The Dark Lord's plan. Is this guy jumping out of the toilet like "ha! made you plunge!"....?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

It's quite enlightening really... how it all seems to stem from having a very vivid imagination combined with the need to personify/ascribe agency to everything bad (or good) that happens in your life. Like a paranoid delusion. Life really isn't that exciting Wink Sometimes a computer bug is just that... not the devil trying to fuck with you Wink

-and very much wanting our family to be part of the magaverse. The kind of people satan would attack, in their estimation. To be fair, the whole mundane issues as satanic attacks thing is a recent flash in the christian nationalist pan. Dial the clock back ten years and any of them would have quickly and without any thought to other externalities told me I needed a plumber...rather than a priest - but they've long believed in the personification of evil.

I think that evil, as perceived or as it is, is even more uncomfortable for our minds when we entertain the idea that no one is actually behind it. If no one is behind it it can't be gamed or bargained with or defeated. No magic words, no holy relics...not even a god...could stop it. It's natural to us, if it's not a devil it's a shadowy cabal. As bad as the world those sorts of views describe sound, it might be useful to consider that those worlds are actually better than the alternative..even if, especially when, the alternative is factual.

Right, well I can't really comment on the American politics side of it, I just was making general observations rather than looking at historical trends or whatever, so I'll have to take your word on that.

Interesting point. Funnily enough I've been thinking about similar things myself lately.... about evolution and natural selection and the 'meaning of life', if that's even a cogent concept here, relative to them; that there's no purpose or intention behind it; they're just processes, but they're nonetheless processes that feel like cold indifference to the brutality and suffering they cause. Probably not quite what you're talking about, but that is a very brutal and stark reality when you think about it... just processes doing what processes do, all without a man behind the curtain but with a brutal inevitability about it. As I said, probably not quite what you're talking about but still an uncomfortable reality to think about in certain existential terms. You can't bargain with that either.

But I see your point, and can vaguely remember having that kind of bargaining mindset when I was a Christian. I couldn't be more different now. Now I'm well aware there is no bargaining to be had... the universe is indifferent to us... and it's only recently that I started thinking about that in more depth, from a kind of nihilistic point to view, like I said, regarding evolution etc.

So that's what the religibois call a drug overdose, is it? Finally makes sense, now.

The more religious the hoomans are, the more stupid falls out of their yammer hole.

The deeper their relationship with the almighty godiboi, the more shallow their hoomanity is.

Apparently, Texas doesn't even crack the top ten in terms of Christian affiliation. Makes me wonder if that sign is even legit.
