When do you think they were written?
I havn't really read about the historicity of them.
I really have no idea. But I know when they were received as being the "true word of the lord".
The Council of Nicaea. 325 AD. The first congregation of the global Xtian crime syndicate henceforth known as 'The Church'.
Uncannily like the Wannsee conference, or the mob's Appalachian BBQ parties.
But the true word of God wasn't exactly cut in stone because within a half century it already got amended when the dual deus, God the Father and Jesus the Son, was expanded to include the holy ghost in the 'Trinity'.
Obviously, the council did not bring about an end to the theological discussions within the christian schools of thought later.
My heart goes out to the brave nestorians out there.

Another pig-Latin euphemistic misdirection. Xtian Oldspeak.
They were simple crime bosses. The Capos of the Church. A.k.a. bishops. Deciding on a mutually beneficial and reinforcing marketing strategy while carving up the market amongst themselves.

Quote:Well, from what I've heard, remarks about the destruction of the Temple places the origin of Mark around 70 AD.
What 'jesus' supposedly said in Matthew 24 is:
Quote:The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times
1 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
This did not happen in 70. The temple was burned along with other large parts of the city but it was assuredly not leveled. Josephus tells us that and he was there. For 60 years the Xth Legion used Jerusalem as its base.
In 135 the Emperor Hadrian decided to embark on a little urban renewal project and decided to level the city and built a new Roman city called Aelia Capitolina on the site. It was THEN that the ruins were "leveled" and so at that point it can be said that the 'prophecy' really came true.
This provoked yet another Jewish rebellion (the bar Kochba revolt ) and when this was crushed Jews were thrown out of Judaea. It is only after these events that we start to see Roman writers paying attention to xtians.

MIN: The epistles of the probably at least two writers we call Paul of Tarsus were allegedly written BEFORE the Gospels. When do you think that might have been?
I've always found what the Epistles do NOT say more interesting than the chunks apparently invented,or simply decided to Paul. Not for nothing is the tiny Jewish sect which became Christianity also called "Paulism" by scholars.

I think that the answer was given before.
Whatever. You are correct, however, most of the christian rules of conduct have been decided on by Paul, as he was the one who took the faith to the gentiles.

2 Corinthians accurately describes the political situation in Damascus in the early to mid part of the first century BC.
A fact which, like most facts, drives xtians up a fucking wall.

Not sure what you are saying that suggests.

TANGENT: 11.25 AM (daylight saving time) December 31. Under my pergola, the temperature is 39C,humidity 47% (about 102F) In this room it is 28C. Pleasant enough, with the portable evaporative cooler. When it reaches 30 l'll move to my bedroom, with the refrigerated A/C and watch Deathwish 3,whilst chugging Pepsi Max.

The author of 2 Corinthians, writing in the first person says:
Quote:2 Corinthians 11:32-33
New International Version (NIV)
32 In Damascus the governor under King Aretas had the city of the Damascenes guarded in order to arrest me. 33 But I was lowered in a basket from a window in the wall and slipped through his hands
Damascus was ruled by Aretas, King of Nabatea, from c 84 to 63 BC.
This would blow something of a hole in xtian theology.

Hold on a second, there was more than one King of Nabatea named Aretas (four that I am aware of). You seem to be referring to Aretas III. Aretas IV ruled Nabatea ca 9 BC - AD 40. This would seem to me to be the King referred to in 2COR.
...unless I'm missing something, which is entirely possible.
