I am not so confident its the better safeguards. Actually the (top) judiciary and congress are much more complicit than they ever were in Weimar. The biggest roadblock to autocracy is imho still the utter incompetence of him and most, if not all, he has surrounded himself with.

As i posted before, Article 48 of Weimar had exactly the same intend/purpose as posse commitatus, but both are potentially worthless if you have a parliament not being able or willing to take its intended role given by the constitution. Separation of power only works in a modern constitutional state as long as the powers are really struggling against each other and not collaborating in an overthrow of your system.

Once Trump decides to make full use of the Marines/National Guard, nothing matters, particularly any "guard rails", but the complacency or willingness to be complicit of those. Either one would suffice, as so many takeovers have demonstrated.

Dont fool yourself to think that any magic "rules" installed by oh-so-wise founding father matter in the slightest, once you have some major players (like army, police, head of state, parliament, judiciary) willing to be complicit or complacent to a "hostile takeover". Rules dont matter, at all, once "they" decide to dont give a fuck about them anymore.

I've been wanting Trump dead since his first term. This is a very evil person every bit the equal of Hitler, Mussolini or Stalin. He hasn't been able to cause as much strife as them only because he is constrained by a system which has much greater checks on his power. But he is a defective unit. A disease. A pestilence. He is nowhere near to the level of villainy shown by Hitler, Mussolini or Stalin. He is just a fucking clown, abhorrent and dangerous by the virtue of office he hold but dim. Shit stains like kaczynski or orban would be more in his league (or he in theirs rather).

To say it plainly - trump is a fascist but that does not make him equal of murderous dictators. Of course he might yet do things that will result in massive death toll but as for now he is just scum, not dude who belongs on the list of most evil dudes ever.

To me trump is just like some random, drunken idiot spewing crap he half heard when he was jacking off to some far right propaganda. Such trash can be found in any country (I work with people who have similar views for dog sake). Issue lies in this that idiocy like one he spews finds so much support; he's not some brilliant orator, some Cicero turned to evil, merely dim witted yokel who barely can string sentences together. And yet he finds support which in my view indicates that something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Mussolini was braggadocious, fake man-of-the-people, narcissistic who turned out did not live to his promises: he did not keep trains on time and Italian economy stagnated so much so that Italians were fed up with him and fired him, but then Hitler sent his army to forcefully reinstate him which angered Italians even more, and he ended as he ended.

Mussolini started a war during which italian army used chemical weapons against both combatants and civilians. They're both clowns with this I can agree but trump is just screaming toddler not murderous dictator. He might do shit that will put him on level of Mussolini or Hitler but he hadn't yet.

I think Mussolini would be enraged about your comparison, rightly so if i may add.

Yes, as a leader of Italy, particularly in wartimes, he pretty much failed and made a pretty clown-ish impression during his speeches, particularly his facial expressions and body language.  He was clearly full of himself and overestimated himself to the point that he finally got overthrown, re-instated, caught again and hanged, instead of trying to get away.

HOWEVER

when we look at his personal background, career accomplishments, from youth to adulthood, Trump cant hold a candle to him.

Mussolini was born into a rather middle class, bourgeois family. Trump was born with a silver spoon.
Mussoli seems to have been a good student (after having attacked someone with a knife tho) and at age 18 he acquired a "diploma" which allowed him to teach in elementary school. Trump probably cant even spell the word "elementary school" to this day.
Mussolini at times worked as a construction worker. Trump didnt work a single day in his life, until now, and he never will.
Mussolini actually had political positions. He had political ideas, as absurd or wrong you may perceive them. He started as an anti-fascist. He learned about Marxism etc. Trump has none of that. I am not even confident Trump had any idea of his own ever.
Mussolini served his time as a conscript, and later entered service in WWI for two years. He fought in the famous Isonzo battles while writing articles for his newspaper in his free time. He was seriously wounded in 1917. Trump had bone spurs and writes nonsense on Truth Social in his spare time.
In 1907 Mussolini passed an exam at university Bologna (oldest university in Europe!), allowing him to be a French teacher. He also did one semester at Lausanne.
In the 1910s he became an accomplished journalist.

Yes, Mussolini was overly ambitious and only interested in himself and his own progress, etc.. He changed from far left to far right. He maybe didnt have a deep enough understanding about politics and ideologies

^Minor point: Mussolini’s hanging was post mortem. I think it’s fair to say that if you’ve been shot to death, then dumped in a plaza, then spat on and kicked, then hung upside down from the roof of a petrol station and pelted with stones, you may have lost the support of the people.

Heavy rain expected on Trump's birthday military parade day

As of Wednesday, the National Weather Service has predicted that there is a 60 percent chance it will rain Saturday after 2 p.m. with a probability of thunderstorms in the evening, potentially foiling Trump’s stacked parade itinerary.

Its website currently reads for Saturday night: “Showers likely before 8pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 8pm and 2am, then a chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 60%.”

The rain could significantly impact Trump’s big, beautiful military parade, which is meant to celebrate the founding of the U.S. Army 250 years ago, as well as his 79th birthday.

Depending on the severity of the weather, certain events, such as the Army’s Golden Knights parachute jump and fireworks at the end of the night, could be canceled.
