I accompanied my oldest to the local No Kings protest, at the rotary (roundabout) in the center of town. She had a good time. Some of the signs were funny. about 150 people - a lot for my small town.

There were six counterprotesters. One of them, a well-known MAGA crank, held a sign that said "Deport White Liberal Women." He would curse when drivers would flip him off, going batshit. The folks in the center of the rotary (No Kings folks) chanted for Boyd, the crank, to go home, which he eventually did when a light rain began to fall.

There were no incidents besides Boyd's tantrums.

The Department of Homeland Security on Monday told staff that it was reversing guidance issued last week that agents were not to conduct immigration raids at farms, hotels and restaurants — a decision that stood at odds with President Donald Trump’s calls for mass deportations of anyone without legal status.

Officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, including its Homeland Security Investigations division, told agency leaders in a call Monday that agents must continue conducting immigration raids at agricultural businesses, hotels and restaurants, according to two people familiar with the call. The new instructions were shared in an 11 a.m. call to representatives from 30 field offices across the country.

Sales for the FIFA Club World Cup, a series of precursor games ahead of next year’s North American World Cup, were already lackluster when, last week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection bragged online about how its agents would be “suited and booted and ready to provide security for the first round of games.”

At about the same time, Immigration and Customs Enforcement told NBC Miami they’d also be at the games providing security, and told the outlet that all non-American citizens should carry proof of their legal status.

Trump Supporter Breaks Down After ICE Detains a Third of His Employees

Vincent Scardina, the owner of A-Plus Roofing in Key West, voted for Trump in the 2024 election, believing at the time that the Republican's deportation agenda would only extend to criminals, per NBC affiliate 6 South Florida.

But when six of his employees — totaling a third of his staff — were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on May 27, Scardina was puzzled.

"You get to know these guys, you become their friends — just not an employer, but a friend — and you see what happens to their family," Scardina told NBC6 of the men, who were Nicaraguan immigrants. "It's… It's quite a shock."

"Valid work permit, not even close to be expired … again, no criminal records, not here, not in Nicaragua. They are legally here. They have an authorization to stay."

Asked what he would tell the president now if he was given the chance, Scardina said: "What happened here? This situation is just totally just blatantly not at all what they said it was."

Scardina now faces the challenge of finding new employees to keep his business running — but the problem is exacerbated by Key West's remote location and other contractor businesses facing the same struggles.
