For perspective, A New Hope was released the same year as the last execution by guillotine in France.

The phrase ‘instant classic’ gives me the fantods.

Are you an Edward Gorey fan?  At one point in his life, he thought movies went downhill after they became talkies.

In 1973 he wrote a screenplay for a new silent film titled The Black Doll. For some reason, it was never produced.

However, he became more eclectic later in life and watched just about anything. He even wrote his own surreal plays and puppet shows.

-Lillies Of The Field
-The Godfather

-It's A Wonderful Life
-The Ruling Class

The Great Race was my favorite movie growing up. I was inspired by Professor Fate's car to build a smoke screen device. It consisted of a discarded space heater I found in the garbage and a gravity-fed tank to drip oil across the heating element. Lucky I didn't burn the house down.

I streamed the movie a few years ago and was saddened by the realization that every last actor in it is dead.

Gorey liked to use the word "fantods" in his books, and published some of his books under The Fantod Press.  See for instance.

I got it from the writings of Mark Twain.
